Session 33: Fear is in the air

The battle rages on……

Zanlin , still invisible, continues to hide but moves up closer to the fray.

Trageon shifts towards the one last visible orc and slashes it across the chest.

“Be scared lady and gentlemen, I am coming for you soon”, taunts Bog Luc. " Trageon , I am going to skull fuck you!" Hearing that , a shiver runs down his spine , and even his indomitable spirit doesn’t stop him from becoming scared of Bog Luc. His old cowardice coming to the fore.

Thanior fires arrows into the Orc, skimming them expertly past Ebon’s head. The Orc now looking like a pin cushion , roars in agony. Helm takes the opportunity to bring his moonbeam to bear.

Around the corner , Zanlin is debating his next move as a panel opens up beside him. From the new entrance an elf comes through, looks around, and then motions with hands to something still inside.

Mara steps forward trying to corner the first orc , stabbing him with her blades. “Deter , show that woman who’s boss” comes the voice of Bog Luc. With new confidence, the Orc Deter shoves his spear deep into Mara’s belly. Then proceeds to slash about him and nicks Helm. Ebon’s fist moves into close range of Deter and tries to punch him, barely missing.

Zanlin sneaks away from the elf to warn Thanior. him miss the Orc.

Trageon continues trying to take out the Deter, not even managing to scratch him. Fear still running through him , trageon’s shaking makes his swords get tangled in his clothing.

" Alright motha fuckas, time to dance " , yells Bog Luc as he enters the room swinging his greatsword at Helm. Barely missing. " Bog Luc in the front and enemies in behind us", yells Thanior as he takes aim at Bog Luc, two arrows flying true to his mark. Bog Luc looks amused , " Meer mosquito bites drow whore!" an evil glint in his eye. Thanior feeling queezy, starts to sweat with the stink of fear as Bog Luc’s stare unnerves him.

Helm , willing his moon light out of existance, chants in a singsong voice of the wild, as an elemental coalesces into existence right in front of Bog Luc. Helm has a wild look in his eye as the power of nature courses around his body.

The elves that Zanlin warned the heroes of come around the corner, firing arrows at Ebon and Helm. They are only able to hit Helm as Ebon makes for too tough a target. Mara finally extinguishes Deter’s life with her swords and moves forward towards Bog Luc, being stopped mid movement as an orc steps forward from an opening and attacks , barely missing her.

Ebon moves his spectral hand to interpose itself between him and the party and then a bolt of fire springs fromhis hand to hit the Orc that just attacked mara. Bog Luc yells at the party " Death to you all" as he misses Trageon. Big talk for a small minded Orc , thought Ebon as he watches Helm’s elemental attack Bog Luc and wound him , though not near as much as his pride had already wounded itself .

Zanlin , still not noticed by the elves, sneaks past them again to see what is waiting for them in the open doorway the elves entered from. The doorway opens into a passage that appears empty , so Zanlin enters the passageway. As he slips past the orc attacking mara , he sees the passage opens up into a room where the natural walls of the cave give way to man made cut stone walls.

Fear slowly drains away from Trageon and he is able to clearly see his target for what he is, a normal orc with delusions of grandeur. Infuriated , he goes into a flurry of dancing blades, wounding Bog Luc. Bog Luc roars in pain and swings his heavy two handed sword, trading wounds with Trageon. Thanior , trying to beat his fear , steadies his aim and hit Bog Luc with two arrows, to devastating effect. He feels his fear cascade away from him like a rush of water. Bog Luc able to swing again at Trageon but can’t connect.

The archers attack through the hand , barely slicing Ebon and Thaneor , as Mara trades blows with an Orc. While Mara is able to wound the Orc, it thrusts its spear into her stomach and drops her to the floor. Her life blood quickly draining from her.

Bolts of magical energy rush forward from behind Bog Luc to smash into Trageon’s chest. Ebon’s tries to hit the Orc that just took out Mara with a bolt of fire but his concentration is too focused on having his spectral hand grapple one of the archers and misses. The archer is held in place as the hand starts to constrict the life from him. Helm’s elemental bites and claws at Bog Luc as Bog Luc swings at Trageon. Missing thankfully.

Zanlin, knowing he is going to have to enter fray as his friends start to drop, sends bolts of magical energy into the back of the orc that dropped Mara and yells stirring words towards Trageon just as Bog Luc swings at him and misses. Trageon immediately counter attacks, cutting Bog Luc deeply. Bog Luc tries to kill Trageon but misses horribly.

The DM calls out Jason for cheating but quickly backpedals and says he may not have heard him.

Thanior pounds two more arrows into Bog Luc. Bog Luc looks fearful and says " come on fella’s , I was just funnin’ about. Let’s talk this out like gentlemen. Zanlin yells form the darkness " come on into the room , drop your weapons and get on your knees." As the conversation flows, Helm shifts to beside Mara , heals her with his magic , and then shifts back to cover.

Helm offers the sick DM a little salve to fix him right up

The archers fire at Trageon and Thanior hurting Trageon severely and nicking Thanior. Mara laying an the ground below the orc feigning death after Helm healed her , looks up and sees a large instrument of pleasure peaking out from under the Orc’s loin cloth. Salivating, she cuts at the wiggling monster , slicing into it like she is slicing sausage for the morning meal. Standing in front of the Orc, she finds her second wind. Sadly staring at the damage she wrought.

Bog luc, seeing that the heroes don’t appear to want to parly, swings and misses Trageon. The Orc , lamenting his damaged manhood , " I said stay down bitch!", and stabs at Mara’s gash, cutting her but not getting quite even. Mara counters and finishes cutting the beasts manhood from him. He stares at her with hatred as he sinks to the floor and his life slips away just like his manhood. Mara watches on with a pained look on her face.

Five more magic missiles fly from the darkness behind Bog Luc and slams into Trageon’s chest. Felling the mighty hero. Ebon’s spectral hand continues to squeeze the archer as Ebon sends a grey ray of death at Bog Luc, who barely doges out of the way. The xorn was able to hit Bog Luc as he moves out of the way. Zanlin races forward next to Mara. Standing over the mutilated corpse of her last combatant and seeing an unnerving look in her eye as she continues to stare at the orc’s waist , quickly casts magical energy at Bog Luc and whoever is behind him and then concentrates healing energy at Trageon, bringing him back from the brink of death.

Renewed, Trageon stands and delivers a solid blow to Bog Luc. " May Tiamat poop on your head " and attacks Trageon , missing despite his flamboyant words. Two arrows sprout from Bog Luc’s chest as Thanior looks at his handiwork. From the darkness behind Bog Luc and squeaking voice yells " Fuck you Bog Luc, I am outta here!", the last words Bog Luc hears as he slides to the ground dead. ( There was much rejoicing , though a disappointed overtone weakens the mood as Zanlin never got to face Bog Luc ) .

Helm looks at the archers, " Bog Luc is dead and the weasel behind him has run. What is your choice, live or die?" , " please spare us , we were just following orders" . Zanlin orders the archer not grappled to come into the room and get on his knees. The one archer complies and the spectral hand dissipates into the ether and the second archer drops to the ground to catch his breath and joins his friend in the center of the room.

The Xorn moves into the room behind Bog Luc’s body as the heroes search the area.

The search finds enough money to keep their flying citadel going along with a magical rod and goggles. The group decides to take a short rest. Ebon identifies the goggles , Zanlin looks at the rod, Thaneor checks out the quiver and Helm identifies the beans.

After resting, Zanlin takes Bog Luc’s body and bends it over a chair, stripping his pants off. He then casts magic at the table making it do Bog Luc like he is a member of the clan of the cavebear.

After clearing the rest of the hideout out, the heroes decide to keep it for themselves. They install Orka heart and his clan of four , the nomadic women and the guard drakes as the caretakers. Zanlin wants to name it ’ Zanlin’s Revenge’ . Still up for debate….

The options in front of the Heroes are to take back control of the Red Talons or meet with the efreet that Zanlin set free. The Heroes decide to go back to Waterdeep for now.

Zanlin performs, Helm does not sleep with the sheep this time, Ebon visits with Green Imsa.

Helm and his partner decide to go into business selling Helm’s special salve. He seeks Mara’s help in generating enough salve. Zanlin goes to see if the blue dragon mask is still where we put it . He is trying to persuade the old woman who’s son Mara killed and Zanlin saved to let him in the house. She invites him to dinner. Zanlin, with the help of Helm and Thanior is able to slip the mask out of the chimney and back into our possession. Zanlin becomes the family’s benefactor, giving the woman money and promising to continue to stop by whenever he was in Waterdeep. The woman is still obsessed with the arrow that killed her son.

Mara seeks out the Red Talon contact to get more info on the rest of the Red Talon’s that are doing evil. Revis , the contact, lets Mara know that he was able to convince sixteen former talons back to Mara’s leadership. The new evil leader is Purgue and he is cruel and evil. They inhabit a castle about 30 days east of Waterdeep. He has about 100 red talons and keeps company with giant hybrid wolves. Town of Evern.

The heroes prepare for the journey. They go to zips to buy potions and hope he has sold that damned sickle they wouldn’t buy. They buy a myriad of potions for some gold and Zanlin will write Zip a song about him. And since we bought boots of elven kind from him we also through in getting on stage with Zanlin as he sings it and a quart of Helm’s special salve.

Session 32: Bog Luc's Hideout
The downward Spiral of a Hero?

The Heroes continue the battle into Bog Luc’s Hideout. The action is intense.

Trageon trades blows with orcs but doesn’t do as well. Thaneor and Zanlin start to damage the orc but just make it angry, he takes a mighty swing at Helm , connecting and nearly leaves the heroes planning a funeral. Helm swings back with his shilleighleigh and the orc just looks at him with a taunting smile, Helm knowing he is in trouble watches the Orc’s head melt and sees Ebon’s smiling face through oozing brain matter. Ebon leaving Helm safe once again.

A door swings open and Trageon takes 3 of 5 bolts of fire that spring form the finger tips of a new assailant, almost dropping him in a smoking heap. Mara runs to Trageon’s aid , completely unaware of the mage in the doorway, attacking the less mighty orc in the room.

Another door swings open and arrows come streaking at Thaneor (the opponent slides back around a corner in the hallway ) making a small scratch on his chest. It starts to look grim for the heroes. Thaneor follows the thug and uses the hit and run tactics of his opponent, against him. As he moves back into the room he yells " Archer in the hallway !" Ebon’s hand wreath’s in flames waiting for other combatants as Helm summons two raptors to engage the parties enemies. As the Archer pokes his head around to fire again, Ebon burns his hair away from his scalp as arrows zip Thaneor’s way again and starts to make him look like a pin cushion. Thaneor moves forward quickly after the enemy archer and puts two arrows in the man’s back as he starts to turn back to hit & run again. Helm sends his raptors down the hallway. Ebon, watching the Raptors depart keeps his hand wreathed in flame. Zanlin mocks the archer from a distance , hoping to enrage him into making a mistake against the raptors. ( The raptors and the archer fight fiercely in the hallway – the archer hears Zanlin mocking him, and enraged , slips and falls from the cliff outside the hideout ) The raptors make an appearance from the hallway, nothing is seen from the archer. Helm eats a handfull of goodberriers to regain some of hie stamina as it appears this will be a long fight.

The battle rages – As Trageon shifts his position the orc fighting him taunts, " don’t run away from me little man" and steps forward and swings, his aim just off as he misses. Zanlin steps forward and mocks the archer , criticizing him so much that the man falls dead of embarrassment.

Mara finally notices the mage in the doorway just as 5 lines of fire come from its fingers and pound into Mara’s chest , scorching a hole in her chest plate. The door closes behind the attack. Mara steps forward and kicks the door open , startling the mage. She swings her offhand sword nicking the mage in his chest. With a quick break in the action , Trageon takes a breather and quaffs of healing fluid to repair some of the damage he has been taking and a white light emanates from Zanlin and washes over the party. Filling them full of optimism and renewing their strength. Trageon, feeling a little too good from the fluid and the light , looks deep into Mara’s eyes " Hey, you’re a human and I am a human fighter, let’s fuck… one tit and all ". Mara looks dreamily at Trageon and his muscled physique ….. As Helm hands Trageon and Thanior good berry’s to increase their stamina even more….. A bit of saliva is seen dripping from her open mouth. Being distracted gives the mage an opportunity to stand and fire bolts of energy into her small chest. Mara , infuriated with the mage for breaking her gaze from Trageon , screams and brings the full force of her swords to bear against him, slicing a furrow into his torso. Trageon steps forward to defend his damsel and stabs him twice in the neck, expertly missing his soon to be conquest.

Mara , Trageon and Helm feel like something is trying to put a haze over them. The mage starts to step away and escape. Mara stands confused but Trageon keeps his wits and strikes at the fleeing mage, catching him in between the eyes dropping him where he stood.

The battle finished, the heroes look around at their surroundings trying to find anything that might help them in their pursuit. Helm checks for the archer but sees only open cliff down the hallway. The Heroes assumes the raptors ate the man, giving them a small sadistic satisfaction.

The battle done, the heroes search around the area. A good amount of gold is collected so the party can recoup some of the expense for this expedition. Apparently , Bog Luc, pays well. Helm also finds a small bag of beans on the mage that he believes are magical, tucking them away to have Ebon check them later. He then heals one of his raptors of the damage taken from fighting the archer, and then turns his healing wand to the party. Curing some of their smaller wounds.

As the heroes moves deeper into Bog Luc’s hideout they enter a hallway that is lined with 3 cells and an altar at the end of it with a bloody body lying across it . ( human male, elf male and female , gnome female & gnome kid in the cells ) The body groans slightly as Helm moves toward it. A female half-elf’s bloody body twitches on the altar seemingly tortured and naked .

“Who has you imprisoned here”, Zanlin asks the humans. " The mighty Bog Luc does .", the male replies. " He inhabits the other side of the complex. The orcs live on this side." The half-elf is incoherent. " Ebon, can you open the lock?" Zanlin asks. Giving Zanlin an incredulous look, Ebon deftly opens the lock and releases the humans. As they shuffle out, " thank you, do you have any food and water?" Ebon continues to unlock the cells to release the other prisoners.

The elves eat and drink, as the gnomes stay to the back of the group of prisoners. Ebon directs the prisoners to the room of death the heroes left behind them " You should be able to cloth and arm yourselves from the dead orcs we left behind". Zanlin asks the prisoners more about the half-elf. They tell them that the orcs thought she could tell them more of the champions of Waterdeep. “We have been here a couple of weeks but they didn’t seem to get any info.”

Ebon asks Helm to give the prisoners some goodberries, then tells them ,“Go outside, hide and wait for us. We will escort you to your village when we are done here.” the males are very greedy cusses, continuing to ask for things even after the heroes have given them much. It is hard for the heroes to continue to help them, but the gnome mother and child keep them in a giving frame of mind. The female half-elf is now able to move , but is still not real responsive. The gnome mother helps her along the way as they finally listen to the heroes.

With the prisoners well taken care for and confident that they will hide and be safe until the heroes work is done, they continue searching the hideout. At the end of the hallway is a large wooden gate. Ebon can’t see a way to open it so asks the rest of the group see what they can determine. After the group finds no way to open it from this side nor able to muscle it open, Ebon casts dimension door and takes Trageon to the other side of the door… he hopes.

Ebon and Trageon step through the dimensional door to the other side right in front of two guards. Trageon , with his quick thinking , attacks immediately almost taking an arm off with his mighty swing. The other hears mocking insults through the door and becomes distracted but is still able to hit Ebon with his spear thrust. Ebon casts thunder wave and pushes his attacker back away from him, doing small damage to the other. As he takes in his surroundings and seeing the crank to open the door, he quickly formulates a plan. He runs to the crank and starts to turn it, budging the door an inch or so, giving his friends the opportunity they need to open the door and making easier for Zanlin’s mocking words enter the area.

Helm throws the door open with a huge heave, bringing the odds into their favor. More gladiators come into the fray. Attacking wildly at Trageon and Ebon. Both taking minor wounds.

The Raptors pounces on a guard and Mara tries use the raptor as a jumping point to flip over the guard. As she jumps onto the raptor , being as heavy as a fat cow, they both go to the ground , giving the half orc guard a clear strike with a spear gouging Mara deeply in the side. She writhes on the ground tangled with the raptor thinking ,’ that was a terrible maneuver’ , as she bleeds onto the floor.

Ebon , seeing the dire circumstances, pulses a blue arcane mist from himself , confusing the two guards attacking him. Thanior fires into the guards killing one and damaging another. A bright white light shoots from helm’s hand , damaging a guard. A guard is able to shake off Ebon’s spell and thrust his spear into him , dropping Ebon to the ground, spattering Ebon’s blood into his face blinding him. The two guards shimmer as Ebon’s spell dissipates. Mara disengages from the raptor and the guard moving back to heal herself.

Thanior continues to harry the combatants, killing one and damaging another. The raptor savagely attacks a guard. Zanlin sends a healing word at Ebon bringing him back from the brink of death as Helm moves into the fray to try to help Ebon. The second raptor charges into the fray to damage one of the guards.

Ebon , healed, stands and reaches out to grab the guards metal sheathed arm. Magic courses through Ebon’s arm and shocks him , allowing ebon to misty step out of danger. Thanior kills the other guard leaving only one in the fight and Trageon quickly steps up and attacks. Mara moves forward and fumbles for the 3rd time. A raptor chomps on the guard as Ebon fires a bolt of fire, burning the guard. Thanior fires two arrows into the final guard, dropping him.

AS the last guard falls , the heroes look around and realize their resources are dwindling. Having no time to rest they take the potions they can and move forward, determined to find Bog Luc.

As they move through the corridors , the group encounters a drow elf standing guard down a tunnel. Zanlin brings Thanior to the front to speak, and the Drow says “this way does not hold what you are seeking. Bog Luc is the other way”. After determining the Drow will leave them alone from his demeanor. The heroes decide to leave that area and go the other direction.

The heroes are being cautious and Zanlin starts to give them encouraging words. As Zanlin is delivering the inspirational speech a half-orc clad all in black full plate armor appears ," Turn around and leave if you know what is good for you". " Why can’t we go this way?" Helm asks. “You do not belong here”, replies the armor clad half-orc.

Thanior slips back around the corner and asks the drow who the armored orc is. “That would be Bog Luc’s blackguard”. “Can you take him out?”. " I will not intervene", replies the drow.

Ebon starts casting a spell, letting the rest of the party know he is tired of this orc’s attitude. Zanlin , seeing Ebon start attacking , throws a fireball and it explodes around the orc, not seeming to phase him. Thanior marks him and fires 2 arrows at him and the orc responds by spinning his glaive expertly and wounding Trageon. Mara moves forward to get a better angle for her bow and fumbles….. hitting Trageon in the back with an arrow while a large column of fire shoots down from above to engulf Mara, the raptor and Helm, crisping their clothes. Ebon finally finishes his casting, bringing into being a large hand that grapples the blackguard, squeezing it. A shattering blast from Zanlin engulfs the blackguard. Trageon moves out of range and Thanior blasts two arrows into him. ( Thanior notices the blackguard go limp). The mass of damage output by the heroes appears too much for the blackguard.

From further into the room, a rough voice says , " Ah Zanlin, I hear you were bedding Talos, she was a sweet piece", Zanlin returns " I don’t know what it says about you but it was still tight as hell " , Bog Luc laughs " ah , it will be sweet to kill you and then hit that again… " .

The heroes take this small lull to prepare. Helm and Mara quaff potions, Ebon moves his arcane hand as he moves forward to get a better view, Zanlin disappears, Trageon quaffs a potion and realizes he should learn his f’n character.

From the darkness, “Come on in here Zanlin, and I will bend you over like I did Talos”, Bog Luc taunts Zanlin.

On a side note – after rob farts on roy – Roy asks rob to spread it – we think he meant his ass cheeks.

The Heroes stand waiting with bated breath for what the encounter they have come to this dreaded place for starts to unfold. Mara and Thanior feel something magical crawl across their skin and they feel their limbs start to harden, but are able to shake off the paralyzing effect. Ebon moves bravely forward shooting bolts of force into the figure standing in a doorway and then his ghostly hand swiftly shifts forward and punches the figure also, wanting to end this as quickly as possible.

Nothing is seen of Zanlin but everyone does hear his inspiring words as Trageon engages. Trageon was so inspired ( uses an inspiration point ) that he delivers two forceful blows to the figure. Thanior , angry at the magical intrusion just moments before, puts two arrows in the figure. From deeper in the cavern the heroes here in that same rough voice, “Come on pretty boy , I am waiting. I am going to take Talos back and she will call me daddy again.” The raptor charges up as Helm puts the moonbeam on the figure and Mara puts him down with two arrows to the chest.

An orc gladiator charges out and kills the raptor on his way to Helm and delivers a spear thrust to him. Ebon fires a bolt of fire that narrowly misses and swings his ghostly hand down to punch the gladiator but also misses.

The search for Bog Luc’s death continues……. ( starts with Zanlin’s turn and he is invisible )

Session 31: Disablers of Tiamat
Champions of the Sword Coast

June 24th, 2017
Homemade Guacamole is quickly added to the banned foods list.
Joe shits consistently form 7:00 p.m until we start about 7:50 p.m.

As we start, Tiamat is taking shape, while Severin was dropping fire bombs.

When we take the dragon mask off of Severin, after killing him. The portal that Tiamat was coming thorough collapses.

As Tiamat disappeared we heard him exclaim, “I will have my revenge!”

The Chromatic dragons were that last of Tiamat’s charges to be defeated. As we are surveying the battle field we find Escobar posing for a portrait of him standing atop the white dragons he claims to have killed.

The party will now and forever more (or until our next heroic deed) be known world wide as the Disablers of Tiamat!

After the long and gruesome battle we finally get to take a long rest. When we awake, we head back to Waterdeep, where a huge celebration has been planned to honor us.

Escobar, much to Zanlin’s chagrin, rides along with us in the parade. After the parade we appear before the Waterdeep Council.

As we arrive to face the Waterdeep Council, we are given a standing ovation. Lady Laural Silverhand herself stands and commends us for a job well done. She proclaims us as “Champions of the Sword Coast” and proclaims that July 8th will forever be a holiday in our honor.

Lady Silverhand tells us to look her up in couple of days, once we are done celebrating and resting and have recovered.

Escobar approaches us and offers to man our flying castle if we make him a full partner. He tells us he will be at the Sleeping manticore Inn. Zanlin for one is against the idea.

After celebrating we take respite in the Waterdeep Grand.

Helm, as usual, chooses to sleep with livestock.
Ebons heads off to stay with Green Emsa
Zanlin sets up stage and performs for all at the Waterdeep Grand, Zanlin is a rock star and the crowd loves his performance.

Thanior hangs at the Waterdeep Grand and enjoys Zanlin’s performance. Trageon spends his free time rubbing elbows with Unthar Flume and the Order of the Gauntlet. Trageon has now risen to the rank of Captin in the Order.

Mara chooses to hang at the inn as well, and while crelaxing she is approached by a scout spy from the Red Talon’s. The spy says that the Talons lost many lives in the battle with Tiamat. The spy talks to mara about running a coup to overthrow a the new leader.

After a couple of days relaxing and recovering the Champions of the Sword Coast have gathered at the Waterdeep Grand.

Ryan nightshade approaches: He is the gentleman that bought the rights to the tower for the Zhentarian (Black Network)

He sells us information on the exact location of Bog Luck. We had to pay 3 diamonds for the intel.

We receive instructions on how to find where Bog Luck Is operating out of. We send a Red Talon retainer to tell Lady Laurel we will return. We fly off to find Bog Luck in our castle. We get to within 15,000 feet and travel that on foot.

The 1st leg of the journey we travel pretty quickly…. Not a lot of snow. As we start to march up the pass, we start to battle a light snow. As it gets dark, we are attacked by 3 huge beasts. After a fierce battle the champions overcome 3 yetis, 2 frost giants and some DM shenanigans to reign victorious…

After the victory, Zanlin casts tiny hut so that the party can take a short rest. (party uses hit dice to restore some lost hit points)

After the rest, we resume travel until we come to the mouth of the cave that had been described to us by Ryan Nightshade. Man made doors lead into the cave. While listening at the doors, Ebon hears voices.

We decide to set up an ambush and try to lure them out of the cave. Ebon gets their attention by imitating a mating call… They seem very excited and peek out. They see Trageon, looking to be all by his lonesome, and the orcs bum rush.

Zanlins hits one with a magic missile.. Orc hits Trageon, Thanior lands 2 arrows deep in an orc. Orc # 2 hits Trageon again. Trageon returns an attack and strikes the orc that had just let out a loud battle cry twice.

The battle rages on with as a combination of melee attacks, ranged attacks and spells ring out. The game is called at 1:45 p.m. and the 3rd instance of DM shenanigans for the night. By my best account, 4 orcs are dead at this point. There is still an orc commander, champion and war chief in the battle. Trageon is up at the top of the round when we resume. I have a note that we need to get the scimitar.

Session 30: Mara: Battle of the Crater
Defeat of the Dragon Queen

The Battle of the Crater

Friday, April 29th
The night begins with everyone eating on their own and as usual several complications arise. In an attempt to change Roy’s hangout name the entire groups joins forces to tackle the situation. It was at this time that Rob begins his assault on those in attendance. His first act of rebellion is when he stole Arron’s cushion and assaulted with a plethora of foul wind. Joe went over some background information for each of the party members.
Ebon was 8 years of age when his father died and later before he joined the group was going to be hanged. Zanlin’s father was a farmer and he has a younger sister and a mentor called “Dan the Man”.
Tregean and Helm are from the same village with Tregean having an ally named Avare Lavent. Finally, Mara was sold into slavery to escape and be trained by an elf called Drelaven.

Rob’s official assault begins at 7:05pm as he goes over the notes from the last meet.

Beginning at 7:15pm

The group finds itself entering the tunnels to stop the ritual that would bring Tiamat back into the mortal realm, after Ebon and Zanlin hurl fireballs at the 6 cult guards. Ebon takes point as he sneaks down the tunnel, staying about 60 feet in front of the party. As the party make their way through the tunnels the sound of battle can be heard all around them as the forces of the realm battle the forces of the cult and their evil allies.

Battle Overview
The armies of the lord’s alliance find themselves outnumbers by the armies of the cultist as the chromatic dragons outnumber the metallic dragons two to one. The giants find themselves on even ground with the evil giants as the Order of the Gauntlet outnumber the armies of devils 2 to 1. The Order decimate the devils, destroying their armies and sending them scattering to the winds.

As the group continue Ebon spots a group of cultists running franticly through the tunnels to the north.
Ebon’s owl stumbles into a chamber within the tunnels containing a large war table with 10 wearers of purple hovering over it discussing their battle plans. Suddenly 6 dark figures dart into the room slaughtering all within, The Assassins of Zentar fulfill their mission.

Battle Overview
The armies of the Lords Alliance find themselves struggling against those of the Cultists. (5c to 3L) While the Metallic dragons even their odds against the chromatic dragons (2m to 2c). The giants are even as well as the Purple Knights take out the Red Talons. The Emerald Enclave continue their bitter and blooding against the monsters and Trolls but are able to gain ground, taking the monsters out. (2e to 1m.t)

Once the group enters the war room, the assassins nod to Zanlin as they exit to continue their orders. Mara and Tregean stand watch while the group searches through the papers and such for any plans or information to help them win the battle. Afterwards the group continue their way through the tunnels with Ebon scouting in front when he is suddenly spotted by a guard. The guard levels his spear towards Ebon demanding him to identify himself. Ebon stands straight up and gives the old password along with the ‘Spaceballs Salute’. Unable to convince the guard Ebon finds himself under attack all by himself. He had told the group to wait until they heard him to tell them to come forward. But luck is on Ebon as he finds himself facing only one guard at a time due to the tunnels being so narrow. That luck soon runs out as he is stabbed in the belly with a spear. He screams in pain as he runs back to the group who open up their assault on the guards.

Mara steps forward firing two arrows into one of the guards as Helm transforms into a Dire Wolf. Thanior moves forward while firing two more arrows into the same guard, turning him into a pin cushion as he collapses to the floor. Tragean clicks his boots of speed and rushes into the fray striking one of the guards with a critical, taking his head off in one swipe as he expertly continues his assault striking a second guard as his first hits the floor dead. —PK is on fish sandwich #5
Zanlin moves forward in all his grace and points at the guard Trageon is fighting and with his hand on his hip yells a vicious mockery at the guard, “Yo mama wears combat boots”. At this point the guards surround the heavily armored Trageon. Ebon, recovering from his wound peeks out from behind the mighty Dire wolf, casting a firebolt at one of the guards, taking him out.

Contining the fight, Zanlin yells a mockery at one of the guards ‘Sic Balls!!!’ once again as the Dire Helm attacks. Mara attacks a guard that Helm knocked prone, striking him 3 times finishing him off with a sword through his forehead. Thanior fires twice more at the final guard as Tragean finishes him off with a thrust of his sword through his gut.

Battle Overview
As the party make their way through the tunnels the chaos of battle continues around the crater. The Lords Alliance continue their bitter struggle against the armies of the Cultist, bring their foe that much closer to defeat as they are now 3L to 4c. After the Order of the Gauntlet slaughter the devils they move in on the flank of the Cultist to assist the Lords Alliance. Seeing the devils slaughter as if they were sheep the evil giants rage grows as they destroy the good giants and begin to “Run Amok”. The Metallic Dragons bring their mortal enemies, the Chromatic Dragons that much closer to their doom, 2m to 1c. The Purple Knights destroy what is left of the Red Talons as the monsters, using dirty tactics wipe out the Emerald Enclave. They join the evil giants and begin to “Run Amok” as well, having advantage on the field.
As the battle rages outside the party continue their search for their prime target, Sevrin, the Red Dragon Rider and disrupt the ritual. Ebon and his owl spot more guards and slaves, looks like the Harpers have dropped the ball as Ebon starts the battle. With a guttural scream he hurls a firebolt towards the guard but hits a poor slave captive in the face, killing the poor child. —Rob continues his nasty assault as he just sits there and rolls his dice while he is in the foul act. How can he sit there as everyone else leaves the table, if they are able—Thanior and Zanlin take out one guard as Dire Helm takes out the other. And as the guards are about to join the battle the Harpers at last make their appearance and take out all the remaining guards. The group continues to search for their target passing a chamber full of Red Wizards battling each other.
Battle Overview
The Chromatic Dragons gain some ground as they even the odds against the Metallic Dragons. The Lords alliance press their attack hard as they bring the armies of the Cultist down to near destruction 3L to 1c. The Purple Knights fight valiantly but are ravaged and slaughtered by the monsters as they “Run Amok”, 1p to 2m

The group finally make their way onto a very strange room as Ebon’s owl bumps into a Red Wizard. They find themselves in the Temple of Tiamat. One wizard is chanting, but is quickly brought down by a combined arrow assault from Mara and Thanior. The Temple has 5 vaulted chambers surrounding a central spiral. —It is at this time that Joe hovers a fireball blast over Jason, getting a very startled glance— One wizard fires a fireball towards the group only to be halted by a counter spell from Ebon. The group fights their way through the room of wizards as a dark robed figure with a large dragon mask hurls an orb from an opening in the ceiling 90 feet up striking Mara and Helm.

It is 11:30 as PK finishes his 6th fish sandwich. Jacob is call out for some shit eating grin. Aaron finally figures why the keyboard is not working. No one turned it on.—-

The group continue their battle with the wizards with arrows and spells being thrown about, fire orbs being dropped like bombs. Helm is taking all of it in as he decides his next move when all of a sudden, the shadow dragon from up top appears right in front of him. A fire whip entangles him as Ebon cast a disintegrate spell at the figure and Tragean rushes to his aid. All of a sudden Mara takes off running out of the room.

Battle Overview
The Lord’s Alliance and Order of the Gauntlet find themselves loosing against the savage onslaught of the Giants and armies of the Cultist until the Purple Knights charge in with banners waving in the wind after they just destroyed what was left of the monsters. All good hearts trembled as the last of the Metallic Dragons fall to the Chromatic Dragons as the Harpers move in to take out the Red Wizards. All this time the Wood Elves cannot find the Drake Horn.

Mara stops running as Thanior two arrows at Severin staggering him pretty well as Severin’s whip deals damage to Helm. He reaches for Tragean’s face with his other hand that is now beginning to glow with fire. Ebon, using all his might, cast arcane hand and successfully grapples him and squeezes him until Severin’s body goes limp. After Mara and Thanior take out the last Red Wizard Trageon removes the mask of the Dragon Queen from the dead body of Severin the Red Dragon Wyrm Speaker.

Battle Overview
With the death of the Red Dragon Wyrm Speaker and the halting of the ritual to bring back Tiamat it seemed as if the forces of evil lost their morale as the Harpers take out the last of the Red Wizards and the elves finding the Drake Horn. The combined might of the Lord’s Alliance, Order of the Gauntlet and the Purple Knights put down each of the Chromatic Dragons as if they were rabid dogs. And with no time to spare the Arcane Brotherhood take the Dragon Queen mask apart, back into 5 separate masks. (Blue mask is here?)

Escabar killed the White that fled from the party long ago and is having a portrait made to remember his deeds. Group is level 12.

Session 29: Robin
The Well of Dragons

March 17, 2017
The gaseous releases start well before game play. It gets really serious when Aaron threatens a Cleveland Steamer.
Finally the notes are reviewed (can’t just look them up on Obsidian Portal, because MR. Hamilton hasn’t finished them yet. Wall O’ Shame x 2 for him.)
We wrap up our first dealing with Toraz the Fair. (Still no definitive answer to how he was released although Zanlin quickly takes credit for it.)
He tells us to look him up at the Nether Mountains so he can show us his full gratitude. I hope Mara is ready to take one for the team.
We question our prisoner Gravis and learn that Severin (wearer of purple) wants us dispatched and that he is heading East to the Well of Dragons. Severin is identified as the Red Dragon Speaker. The plan, which we foiled, was to get us out in the open.
After a ong rest, we arise to meet with the Council of Water deep at 10:00 a.m. As we enter, we are given a rousing standing ovation. As we make our way in, some old friends invite us to sit with them. Trageon gladly obliges and takes a seat right next to Ungar Thume. Ebon’s dear friend Leocin has him a seat saved and calls for him to take it twice, but Ebon rudely denies him to sit at the big boys table. Leocin is obviously dejected.

Lady Laurel, who has ran the last three meetings, gets things started by asking us to share our heroic tales.
Leocin gives Ebon one last plea to join him and Ebon takes delight in tell him no as he shakes his head left and right arrogantly, almost taunting Leocin that he doesn’t have a seat at the head table. What a shame.

Zanlin starts to recant the tale of how they acquired the Blue mask in Zhentil’s Tower, and how they quickly defeated Lennithor, the blue dragon to save the day once again.
At this point, one of Leocin’s peons is sent to tell Escobar that the Blue Dragon has been slain by the real dragon slayers.
The meeting moves on with the harpers providing intel on the Cult of the Dragon starting to gather at the Well and they are very excited. The time is almost near.
Our next mission is to go to Thay and meet with their leader to gain their support. Nym Ilmichh, a Thay Delegate, is in attendance and has requested that we represent the Sword Coast at her master’s Castle. She tells us that there are many Red Wizards that are working for the Cult who have been exiled and the want us to track them down and kill them.
Lady Laurel appoints us as special council for the Lords of Waterdeep, and we are now part of the Lord’s Alliance. She asks us to negotiate with Thay to help us in our battle against the dragons and to kill the red wizards.
We are sent off to a small waiting room to prepare to head out again. While waiting, Ryan Nightshade, a tiefiing who is a member of the black network, comes to pay us a visit. The black network is a zhenterian faction( some shady dealers that love secrets). Prefer to stay low key and behind the scenes.
Nightshade wants to buy Zhentils Keep from us. He has documents prepared and drawn up. Ebon assures us that everything is on the up and up and we sell them the rights to Zhentils Keep for 8000 gp (8 diamonds)
In preparation for teleportation to Thay, Helm casts Heroes Feast on the party to give them temporary hit points and buffs.
Once we are buffed, Nym teleports us to a very lavish waiting room in Thay. He tells us the the Tharchion (Commander) will be in soon. His name is Esdlearayeth and he has fangs.
Nym returns about 20 minutes later and tells us to follow her. We follow her down a long hallway where we see many races of undead servants moving about.
The end of the hallway opens into a big chamber where we see a very pale female human. Standing around her are 10 more humans in red robes. 5 are men and 5 are women. There are also 5 undead wights in chain male.

The lady speaks, “ I am Tharchion Eadlearayeth. I am in command of the Keep” We have a common cause against a common enemy. Together we can remove them as a threat to both of us.
We are on a mission to find the exiled Red Wizards. We have agreed to a deal with T.E. to find the exiled Red wizards and report to Nym.
We sleep through the night, but it is a very restless sleep. We all feel like we suffered from terrible nightmares, but couldn’t recall any of them. Trageon feels like he was tortured, felt he had his fingernails pulled out. Mara finds blood on her sheets, Helm is totally drenched in sweat when he wakes up and Ebon looks like he has a very deathly pallor. All color and blood are drained from his face. During the morning conversation about nightmares, Helm lets it slip that he was woken up with Ebon laying next to him on more than one occasion.
We have heard in the past that sleeping in Thay can cause different effects. It is common knowledge that the Red Wizards of Thay have been known to invade your minds to find out your true intentions.
Breakfast was delicious. We enjoy the sweet meats that have been prepared for us. Afterwards we Nym teleports us back to Waterdeep. She tells us she has a room at city hall if we need her.
We we return are members of the alliance are gathered in little groups. Lady Laurel is very happy that we have secured the help of the Red Wizards. She makes in clear that we need to cut ties once our task to help the red wizards is complete.

Through all of our heroic efforts and great deeps to help save the world we have acquired the help and resources of many groups. They are the Harpers, Order of the Gauntlet, Emerald Enclave, lady laurel, Neveember, Connarad Brawnanvil, Elves of King Melondrake, Uldar of Baldur’s gate, Silverymoon, the purple knights and the Metallic Dragons and the giants.
The harpers and Zhenteran share the information they have gathered on the Cult of the Dragon and the raising of Tiamat. They tell us that we will be battling:
Severin and the Red Wizard, Galvan, ROdmodon, the cult leaders, cultist troops, chromatic dragons, devils, giants, monsters, evil mercenaries, temple of Tiamat, Mask on the Dragon Queens, and the Drakhorn.
We know that it is imperative that we:
1) Shut down the Drakhorn
2) Kill the cult leaders
3) Damage the temple
4) Destroy the mask of the dragon queen
5) Stop prisoners form being sacrificed

We are aware that once they get to a certain point in the ritual we will also have to defeat Tiamat, We need to work quick.
As we are flying in our castle to the Well of Dragons we witness dragons attacks all around the castle. 10 bearded devils teleport onto our castle and begin to attack. After a long and violent battle we are finally able to dispatch of all of the devils and restore order on the castle. Pole is dropped fighting valiantly to defend our castle and Helm heals him and many others after the battle. We sense that the battle is worsening and we need to get boots on the ground. We mount our Wyverns and head to the outlying area surrounding the Well of Dragons.
As we descend we notice a temple rising out of a volcano. Our attention is quickly drawn to 5 spires each with a chromatic dragon on it.
After analyzing the situation, we decide on the tunnel we are going to take to enter underneath the volcano. The tunnel we pick is being guarded by 6 guards. Ebon and Zanlin let fireballs ring out and quickly dispatch of the guards. We make our way into the tunnel ready for an epic battle.

Session 28: Aaron
Session 27: The Blue Mask and Toraz

Play gets started after the not taker is tired of getting “razzed” after setting up the equipment. The group decides to touch the symbol that looks like a right triangle. They disappear to the sundial, and are faced with a decision having two choices. Looking around the sundial, there are only two paths, one going back to the village, and one going towards the tower. The group picks to go down to the tower where they arrive and decide to touch a star shaped symbol. The group appears in a room which looks to belong to a wizard. There is a brass telescope, 2 tomes sitting on a table, and the ceiling of the room is a crystal lens, looking to the sky. Ebon listens to the door and hears nothing, and tests the knob, seeing if it is locked, it is not. He opens the door towards the group, and two fire balls come raining in.

Trageon is hit for 68 points damage, Thanior takes 52 points, and everyone else only takes 34. After the smoke clears, the group can see that Helm, Thanior, and Trageon are all laying on the floor, limp and lifeless. Zanlin casts Shatter into the doorway for 28 points damage. Then, two magic missiles come flying out of the door at Mara, dealing 30 points damage. Then, out of nowhere, Mara queefs out a potion, that heals her for 28 hit points. Then, using second wind, heals herself for 20 more points. Ebon’s insight notices only two attackers, but when Zanlin had casted Shatter, there were many screams heard within the doorway. Ebon peaks out the door, and sees onto a balcony. On the balcony, there are two people lying on the ground, with a mage on either side. He then casts Fireball, doing 30 points of damage, dropping the last of the attackers. Trageon, with the help of Mara, queefs out a potion, which heals him 19 points. Ebon then walks over to Helm, casting cure light wounds, which restores 11 of Helm’s points. The group then searches the bodies and finds an hourglass-shaped key. They then decide it is everyone’s best interest to take a short rest, and heal.

After the short rest, the group turns their attention to the wizard workshop. Most of the books on shelves around the walls are ruined, and the brass telescope in the middle of the room is damaged, not being able to see anything through it. Searching the room, the group finds a table of interest, and in the table, is a trap compartment. Ebon searches for traps inside of it, but finds none, not taking it too seriously. When it opens, acid bubbles pop in Mara’s face, doing 16 points damage. Helm then tends to Mara by giving her a facial, a long household remedy passed on by the wood elves. Helm then wraps Mara’s head with a cloth, so the salty sauce can work its magical powers. Ebon then looks at scrolls found in the hidden compartment, which contain information on fire and earth elementals.

The group then presses a symbol that looks like a square, and it transports them to a bedroom. The bed is nothing special, and there is a makeshift table with notes and scrolls. Zanlin investigates this table, the notes pertain to the Dracoliches, from Jorgen Pawl and Iskander, Mara puts this scroll in her backpack. After looking at every point of interest in the bedroom, the group uses the hourglass symbol, and the key they picked up from the mages, to transport into a room with recently deceased bodies, and trail of blood. 2 of the bodies were killed by magical fire, and 1 was killed by stabbing. With Ebon taking the lead, the group follows the blood trail. There is a 2nd path trailing off from the original streak of blood with boot prints heading to the north passage way, where 3 figures are seen. Those creatures are earth and fire elementals.

The group moves up to see an earth elemental first. Zanlin casts Fireball, doing 36 points damage. Trageon then tosses two javelins to see only one of them hit, doing 8 points damage. Helm casts Conjure Elemental, bringing in a fire elemental of his own. Thanior casts Hunter’s Mark, and shoots 2 arrows for 28 points of damage. Trageon moves in on a fire elemental and hits it for 36 damage. The first earth elemental is confused, but the second uses a slam attack, doing 15 points damage to both Trageon and Thanior. Zanlin then casts Shatter on both earth elementals, which hits for 16 points each. The group notices that Shatter seems very effective against the earth elementals. The fire elemental now tries to attack, but misses twice. Helm casts Ice Storm to hit all three elementals, along with Trageon, doing 31 points damage each to the elementals, and 15 to Trageon. Mara attacks the 2nd earth elemental twice, to do 32 points damage, who falls to the ground in defeat. The friendly fire elemental tries to attack the enemy fire elemental, but fails since they are both made of fire. Ebon casts Ray of Frost to do 2 points of damage to the fire elemental. Thanior then fires two arrows at the fire elemental, doing 40 points of damage, resulting in death. Trageon attacks the earth elemental once for 11 points. It then moves away, and Helm’s fire elemental attacks for 8 points. Zanlin then fires two bolts from his crossbow doing 20 points, and killing the last enemy. There is nothing else in the room, where the fighting happened.

The group then turns around to see steps, descending to a walkway, which seemingly passes through space. You can see stars and planets as if you were looking through a telescope. To the left is a short walkway to a door, to which Ebon listens, and then opens. There is a room with a whirlwind in the center with small gems twinkling inside of it. Ebon then searches all the tables to find useless equipment and Xonthal’s notes to creating elementals. Zanlin tosses a copper piece into the whirlwind, and players roll for initiative, to fight a wind elemental.

Trageon hits once for 15 points damage. The wind elemental then rolls up on Trageon and Zanlin. Zanlin gets slammed against the wall, and lands on his stomach, taking 15 points damage. Trageon is the picked up and tossed at Mara, who side steps to avoid getting hit by Trageon, who takes 12 points damage. Thanior then shoots two arrows at the elemental for 27 points damage. Zanlin, who is laying on his stomach, uses his Wand of Wonder, which casts petrification at the elemental, but it has no effect. Mara hits the enemy twice for 21 points, and our friendly fire elemental does 30 points damage. Ebon then uses Frost Bolt to finish it off.

There is only one way for the group to go, and that is to descend the steps onto the space walkway. Zanlin gives Trageon two potions of greater healing, who takes one for 10 points of health back. As the group goes down the steps, and onto the walkway, Ebon and Trageon see a volley of small meteors cross their path. Everyone besides Trageon can dodge the meteorites. Trageon is hit, and then falls off the pathway, into deep space. Zanlin then casts Feather Fall on Trageon, who takes 12 points of damage. When Trageon lands, he ends up in the room where the group had just fought the earth and fire elementals. Everyone else still heads across, and come to a door. Ebon listens and hears nothing. The door is not locked. Ebon stands behind the door while opening it, to make sure he is hidden from any enemy attacks, but there are none, this time.

The door opens up into a study, with books lining the whole room, along with a ladder with wheels to be able to easily get around. There is a desk in the middle, covered in papers, books, scrolls, and tablets, and Ebon realizes there are a lot of valuables in this room. Zanlin is having fun on the ladder, while Mara pushes him around. Ebon finds a book on arcana, worth about 100 gold pieces, Helm finds a book about King Melan Drake and the Misty Forest Wood Elves, worth about 180 gold piece. Thanior finds a map of an unfamiliar area, which Zanlin inspects, and reveals that it shows the City of Brass. This map is worth roughly 500 gold pieces, Thanior rolls it up, and puts it in his quiver. Trageon finds a book of nobility worth about 70 gold pieces. Helm and Mara then find secret doors. Helm checks his door for traps and finds none. Mara pushes in a shelf, which moves back and then to the right. Loose papers then start moving around the room, slashing at anything inside the study.

Trageon, Mara, and Thanior do 91 points damage combined to the paper. The paper then attacks, missing Trageon, Thanior, and Zanlin. It hits Mara for 12 points, Helm for 9 points, and Ebon for 4 points damage. Helm then casts Dispell Magic, and all the papers float to the ground. Helm moves a book to open the second door, but two openings appear. The first opening heads into a large office. The only thing of interest in this room is ink that would be for magical use. The group then moves into the next room, which is capitalized by a large viewing crystal, and a rod in front of it. Zanlin turns the rod and the scene on the crystal changes to the city on the map that Thanior found, the City of Brass. Mara then urges Zanlin to take out the “rod”, and before you know it, he pulls out his manhood and places it in the palm of Mara. Now, leaving the study, and going down the space walkway once again, another meteor shower manages to knock Mara off, who is then saved by Zanlin using Feather Fall to slow her momentum. Mara still takes 12 points damage from the meteor. Mara then appears in the room at the end of the walkway, which happens to be a storage room. The door to the room is locked, so Ebon attempts to pick it, but fails. Thanior then steps up saying, “slide to the side”, as he opens the door, and there stands Mara.

The door to the left of the storage room is not locked, so Ebon opens the door and walks in. This chamber has two massive hourglasses. And, straight across from the door is the cultist with the Blue Dragon Mask clutched in his hand. He is slumped over. Ebon perceives that he is dead. Zanlin then uses a spell to talk with the deceased. He asks why the cultist would want to run away, and he responds that he did not like the direction the cult was heading. The next question is how to use the mask, and we are told to put it on. “What are the cults’ plans?”, asks Zanlin, to which he receives an answer saying the cult intends to revive Tiamat at the Well of Dragons. The team then takes the Blue Mask and moves on.

The group then enters a room where there is a red-skinned creature, wearing armor of flames, is sitting, studying a chess board. Ebon and Trageon are the first to see this creature. At the doorway, Ebon sees a thin line of salt across the floor. The salt is to keep the creature contained. The creature is known at Toraz the Fair, and he has been there since Xonthal ran the tower. Toraz kept inviting the group in to sit down and play a game of chess. The group then questions Toraz about his life, and origins, while he keeps asking for help escaping the room he is confined to. They learn that he is called an Efreeti, who can grant wishes, but the group can tell he is not being truthful about something. The group leaves without allowing him to leave. On the way out, Toraz yells, “You will regret the day you did not allow me my freedom!”

On the way back to the village the group spots a Blue Dragon. Zanlin then turns invisible, and scurries away, towards the village. Thanior tries to shoot two arrows at the dragon, but misses both. The dragon then frightens Mara, Ebon, and Thanior, who is then shot by a lightning bolt from the dragon for 33 points damage. Trageon does 6 points damage to the dragon, and Helm casts Ice Storm. The dragon fails his saving throw, but then decides to make it, just because he can, and takes 15 points of damage. Thanior then moves to find his Arrow of Dragon Slaying which he had missed earlier, and picks it up. Ebon casts Fireball for 23 points damage. The group then hears the dragon yell, “Give me the mask!”, and then Ebon, puts the mask on. Trageon does 6 more points, along with Helm’s 13 points of damage with his insect plague. Mara then does 12 points of damage. After Thanior gets his arrows ready, he fires one Arrow of Dragon Slaying, and one normal arrow, which slashes the dragon for 56 points damage.

Then, out of nowhere, two firebolts come from the sky, aimed at the dragon, doing 50 points damage. Zanlin then uses his Wand of Wonder to cast Petrification once more, but the dragon auto saves, because he feels like it. Ebon then shoots him for 40 points damage with a Fireball. The dragon is then wounded, and tries to escape. Trageon shoots two crossbow bolts at him for 12 points, along with one hit from Mara for 8 points, and an Ice Storm from Helm for 28 points damage. Then, the group sees Toraz the Fair is the one shooting the Firebolts at the dragon, who then fires two more shots at the dragon for 50 points damage, killing the Blue Dragon.

Session 26: The End of the Maze

The group approaches the sundial and appears on a separate path. In the distance, they hear charging hooves. A gorgon is coming at the group. Hurrying to react, Thanior pulls out his bow and flings two arrows at the charging gorgon, doing 30 points damage. Zanlin readies his crossbow, fires two bolts, but the gorgon proves to be too elusive, and both of the crossbow shots miss. Trageon uses his boots of speed to charge at the gorgon, he misses his first attack, and then fumbles on the second. Mara moves up 30 feet, drops her torch, and attacks the gorgon wither her bow for 23 points damage. Helm casts the spell Flame Sphere for 7 points damage. Now, the gorgon attempts to attack Trageon, but luckily, it misses. Out of nowhere, a second gorgon pops out of the tall hedges in the maze and uses his breath attack. Everyone in the group feels their bodies start to stiffen, but everyone breaks free, except for Thanior, who starts to turn to stone. Ebon then sends an owl in the air to do a shocking grasp for 24 points damage. Thanior fires 2 arrows that do 30 points, afterwards, he starts to change color before saving himself and fighting off the Petrifying Breath. Zanlin hits gorgon twice for 19 points, and Trageon hits once for 15 points. Mara, wanting this silly scuffle to be over, drops her bow and draws her two short swords, who fumbles her first attack, hitting on the second, and then using action surge getting two more attacks, and doing 42 points damage, finally killing the first gorgon. Helm now focuses on putting down the second gorgon, using a flame sphere and throwing a javelin, to do 17 points damage. The gorgon then charges past Trageon and hits Mara for 24 points damage. The gorgon then tries to use his Petrifying Breath once more, but the group resists. Ebon then commands his owl to do another shocking grasp for 5 points damage. Thanior slings two arrows at the gorgon, hitting on one and doing 21 points damage. Zanlin then fires 5 magic missiles, trying desperately to defeat this last gorgon in one final shot, and thankfully, the gorgon is slain.

Helm notices as the gorgon used his breath attack that a gem rolled from his mouth. Looking around, he found one from the other gorgon also. Helm picks up both gems, and as soon as he does, the hedges of the maze part and lead down to a new path. The team walks about 9 minutes and comes back to the sundial. Zanlin walks up the sundial while there are shadows pointed in all 8 directions. The group decides to travel west, after bickering about always coming back to the same place. They walk along the path for 2 minutes and come to a clearing with a circular pond in the middle, measuring about 60 feet, and has a gem hovering about a foot over the pond. Ebon uses Mage Hand to go out and grab the gem. As the hand approaches the gem, 4 pinchers come from the pond and attack Ebon. The first attack misses, but the second grabs Ebon and does 14 points damage. The other two pinchers turn toward Trageon, hit him with a critical hit, and grab him. Thanior attacks one of the pinchers that grasped Ebon, does 10 points damage with the first arrow, and fumbles the second. Trageon, while grappled, uses his manly strength to strike the pincher twice for 34 points damage. Zanlin then points his crossbow at the pincher that has Ebon by the testicles, and hits it twice for 13 points damage. Ebon, using his quick wits, then remembers he has a spell to get him, and his testicles, out of a sticky situation like this, called Misty Step, teleporting him 30 feet away, and then casts a Fire Bolt for 10 points. Trageon feels poison being injected into his body, but fights it off, and is crushed for 11 points damage. Zanlin is hit by a pincher for 12 points and grappled. Trageon is attacked by another pincher, but misses, and Helm is attakced for 12 points and grappled as well. (Jacob (Thanior) arrives from work and asks, “Are we still in the maze?”) Helm then wild shapes into a Dire Wolf and breaks the grasp of the pincher. (While Jacob is settling in and getting filled in on what is currently happening, him and Jason make a deal. Jason will write the notes, and Jacob will post them for this time, and the next. Jacob also proudly announces that after months of bumming dice from everyone else, he finally bought his own set, saying that it also came with a bag. Joe, then exclaims, that your reputation in the Dungeons & Dragons world is all about how big of a bag you carry your dice in (pulling out an extremely large bag). Jacob, who is obviously flustered by this news, reluctantly pulls his bag out of his pocket, which is barely able to hold 7 dice without ripping. The whole groups laughs at the pitiful size of Jacob’s dice bag, but then quiets down and gets back to the business at hand.) Mara attacks one of the pinchers 3 times with her short swords, doing 33 points damage. Thanior shoots 2 arrows, and hits with one of them to do 11 points damage. Trageon attacks one of the pinchers twice, and does 27 points. He then yells at Zanlin to use a Cone of Cold at the pinchers, which would also hit Trageon. The group thinks this is an act of bravery, “taking one for the team” per say, but then they remember that Trageon wears a ring of cold resistance. So, Zanlin uses his Cone of Cold and does 50 points of damage each, making 2 of the pinchers perish, and causing Trageon to take 12 points. Ebon then fires a Fire Bolt for 13 points. A pincher then grapples Zanlin for 11 points damage. Zanlin feels poison being injected into him, becomes paralyzed, and is taken underwater by the pincher. Helm gets grappled and takes 11 points damage. Mara then hits the last pincher above ground 3 times, “crits” it once, and kills it. Thanior then sheds all of his clothes, and dives in after his buddy Zanlin. Trageon sits and watches, thinking he had already done his good deed for the day. Ebon, then uses Mage Hand to take the gem that is still hanging over the lake, and returns to the party. The pincher then squeezes Zanlin for 11 more points damage. Helm changes into a Giant Octopus and heads after Zanlin. Mara, Trageon, and Ebon all stand by the side of the pond waiting for something to come out, and Thanior heads back up to them, seeing Helm already pass by him. The mosnster crushes Zanlin and makes him take 11 more points damage, but then, Helm catches up to the pincher, and takes 7 points damage and is grappled. Helm takes 11 points damage. While he is grappled, Helm swims 60 feet up towards the shore, but the monster lets go and swims 30 feet deeper. Helm goes after the pincher and misses. The monster then grapples Helm again, who swims powerfully up 15 feet. Helm can feel poison coming through, but fights it off. Helm then attacks the monster for 10 points, who tries to poison Helm again, but fails. Helm then moves 15 more feet towards the surface, and does 12 more points damage to the monster, and kills the last pincher, bringing Zanlin to shore. Zanlin is dying quickly. But thankfully, the group is able to help, and he starts to awaken. Mara then searches the bodies of the monsters, but finds nothing. Zanlin uses Mass Cure Wounds, and the group takes a short rest.

The team leaves the courtyard and walks for 6 minutes and arrive to the sundial with all the paths shadowed. They then move North and travel into a courtyard where there are 6 suits of armor on the edges of the room with a carpeted floor. The ranks of the group are changed before entering the room, as the group is expecting a fight. The fighters of the group step into the middle of room and initiate the battle. Ebon hits a suit of armor for 4 points, Trageon hits for 16 points, Thanior hits with his first arrow for 21 points, fumbles his second, Mara hits 2 of 3 for 23 points damage, who destroys a suit of armor, and a blood stone appears. Zanlin then uses his Wand of Wander and casts Fire Ball, which does 31 points damage to suits of armor and Helm, and Trageon takes 15 points damage. Helm moves forward in the room, Ebon readies for his action, Mara moves farther in, and Trageon then moves to the next suit of armor. Mara then picks up a stone and tries to throw it to Zanlin, but she misses her mark horribly, and breaks the stone. Zanlin then picks up another stone and sticks it in his pouch. The group travels on through the room, then on a path for 3 minutes and come to the Sundial Room. They travel North, once again, for 8 minutes, come to the same room with armor on the edges, and Zanlin notices that the stone in his pouch disappears. This cycle continues to go on many times, and the heroes are confused about what they are supposed to do. (While all of this is going on, Robin is asking people to smell his wrist.)

After 5 insight checks (hints from the DM), the group decides to go through the hedges and they disappear, finally escaping the maze. They appear 5 feet away from the tower, with a portal next to them, on the ground. The group steps on the portal and is transported into the tower. Inside the room they appear in, there are geometrical symbols on the wall, and a lady lies in a pool of blood, killed by a dagger. She looks to be a high ranking official from the cult, a Wearer of Purple. There are no doors in this room, just a portal with controls, and 2 balconies on either side, 8 feet off the ground. Ebon investigates floor, and learns there are portals on both balconies. Under the railing on the balconies, there are buttons which are believed to be controls. The buttons are; a chair, 2 chairs, upside down “L”, flames, a triangle, and a hour glass.

Ebon and Thanior both press the downward “L” button at the same time, and disappear. The rest of the group follows and end up in some room where there are doors leading to other rooms. The group investigates all of the doors, and every room is empty. The group then steps back onto the portal in which they came, and pressed a rectangle symbol. They appear in a room with an altar in the middle, and a half dozen cultists, who are surprised to see visitors. Ebon and Zanlin both shoot Fireballs in at the cultists, and do 15 points and 32 points of damage respectively. The group then presses the flame button on the portal, and teleport into a room with a fireplace, two-thirds of a skeleton of a red dragon on the floor, and half a dozen figures dressed in black, who attack the group. Trageon hits twice for 25 points, Ebon shoots a Firebolt for 12 points damage. Zanlin then uses his Wand of Wonder to cast Darkness. The cultists then move in to attack the group. Mara then hits 3 times and does 35 points damage. Thanior backs up away from the figures to be able to shoot a ranged attack, who shoots two arrows and does 36 points damage, which kills one of the figures. Helm then moves to attack, and misses. Trageon hits once for 16 points damage, and Ebon misses his attacks. Zanlin, once again, uses his Wand of Wonder to cast Fireball who hits Thanior for 15 points, and Helm with two other cultists for 32 points of damage each, which kills the two cultists. The cultists then attack Trageon for 10 points and Mara for 6 points of damage. Mara hits a cultist twice for 20 points, and then fumbles. Thanior shoots two arrows at another cultist doing 47 points damage. Helm then uses his Staff of Healing to regain 13 hit points. Trageon attacks a cultist twice for 12 points, and Zanlin hits a cultist with 1 of 2 bolts, then cures Helm. The battle continues with the group finishing off the cultists.

POV1 - Cult of the Dragon

“I am growing extremely tired of your continued delivery of upsetting news,” the enraged red wyrmspeaker growls as he grabs the frightened messenger around the neck. “I can no longer stomach the sight of your face.” The Cult of the Dragon leader rips the throat out of the unfortunate courier, dropping him to the floor in a lifeless bloody mess.

Severin had just received news two more of his inner circle had been killed at the hands of a certain group of adventurers he was becoming more and more aware of. The troublesome band, working for the Waterdeep Council, had killed Varrum, the white wyrmspeaker, and Neronvain, the green wyrmspeaker. They had already disposed of Rezmir, the black wyrmspeaker, and fought off or killed a few dragons as well. He had vastly underestimated their power.

Looking to a rather large imposing red half dragon warrior in plate armor, Severin says menacingly, “They have meddled in my plans enough. I want them dealt with once and for all. Gather your team and strike mercilessly. Do not disappoint me.”

Session 25 Xonthal's Tower & the Hedge Maze
The Night of Foul Wind

The Night of Foul Wind
In attendance: Joe, Rob, Aaron, Roy, and Jason
Time: 5:30 P.M.
Coneys was on the menu tonight with Jason’s secret sauce of exotic meats and sausage, though he would bless us with his presence later in the night due to ball practice. He entrusted his secret sauce to Rob who proceeded to try and warm it all up in the tiniest of sauce pans with the meats overflowing in the pan, to the horror of all in attendance.

It was at this time that the crew experienced some technical difficulties and had to drag a T.V. from upstairs and Joe and Aaron went through their gadgets until they has their VGA hooked to the mini HDMI that was then spliced into the Flomonical Tube and fused to the Flux Compositor, your everyday projector stuff. After 30 minutes of fixing all of this they decided to not use any of it and sent the T.V. back.

As everyone settled down to eat the mustard was subject to being blocked in the hole while Jason’s secret sauce was revealed to be buffalo and his special sausage with the time now being 7:00 P.M. At this time Shady Will walked in to see what was for dinner and proceeded to sneeze into the pot of dogs, sadly Aaron had not eaten yet with the time being 7:25 P.M.

Joe proceeded to go over the magical items with Zanlin getting a ring of cold resistance as Jason and Aaron were discussing getting off the wall to which Aaron was resolved to point out that Jason would never being able to get off. At this time PK joined the party with being remoted in through the Flux Adaptor which frightened Jason at first because he thought we were communing with spirits for a bit there.

The echo is going to drive us all mad as PK’s voice and all that speak are echoed from one device to the other. Later we find out that it is Aaron’s fault and he should be caned. After a few moments it is discovered that Jason’s cushion has been kidnapped. The time is 7:50 P.M. and we are still going over magical items.

In going over the past events we are reminded that we has just killed the green dragon, Chuth, and after reading a journal on the speaker’s body we find that the Green Wyrm Speaker is Neronvain the long lost son of King Belindrake. Weary from battle we rest and search the massive cavern to find a massive horde of treasure, 8000 copper pieces. Jason found his cushion and the culprit is Aaron, who swiped the cushion. That swiper no swiping was not prepared tonight with no cushion, no screen or background music.

After searching the cavern the group came together to discuss where they should rest, a long rest is desperately needed. As they searched they found the food supplies, about 2 months of “common fair” food with 8 bottles of Evermead wine. a rare and expensive delicacy. Aaron used his wand of finding secert doors, to check for any other hidden areas, which raised questions from the DM and accusations of his "willy nilling " his character sheet. The DM tries to argue that the Wand of Secert Door Detection is an awesome item and needs to be properly recorded.

After much discussion it is decided that Tregon, Ebon, Thanior and Mara will stay at the cavern while Helm takes Zanlin back to the castle to bring it to them and get the food supply. After watching Helm change into a giant eagle to transport Zanlin back to the castle Ebon exclaimed, ’I got a new F@!kin mount."to with Zanlin asked Mara did he just say he wanted to mount Helm? Poor Helm has been the subject of much persecution from a mount to the demining man servant.

The group flew their castle back to the Elven village to inform them of the dragon’s demise. (It is at this time, 8:30 P.M., the assault begins. The most foul of foul. A stench that would burn the eyes. A stench that cannot be healthy, that one would question…“How is that humanly possible?” Rob’s assault begins. The strangest thing is that no one else is having this issue. It will continue through the night as if his gaseous biochemical warfare has startled all into a sense of stunned submission. ) After telling the elves of who the wyrm speaker was the guard advises the group to be careful in how they discuss this with the king. The group the boards their castle and heads for Waterdeep.

The group traveled for 3 days to Waterdeep and upon arrival they informed the guards that they needed to meet with the council. The guards told the group that it would take some time before the entire council could be summoned to which the group decided to do a little shopping, eating and socializing while they waited. They entered Zip’s Rarities, a small shop of acquired items of different functionality and incense filled air. While there they stocked up on much needed healing potions and Ebon was delighted to find a few spell scrolls. Sadly Zip would not except payment in copper pieces. The group decided to not purchase the fine sickle, though it was a good price.

Finely the group would meet with the council and upon arriving they discovered a new face was amongst them. One Rein Nightshade, special advisor to Lord Everember who was not in attendance. The group, with Zanlin being the main speaker, informs the council of sad tidings. The Green Wyrm Speaker was none other than Nevorvain causing King Mellingdrake to rise in a rage of confrontation as he demanded proof of these accusations. After Zanlin hands the king the journal he collapsed back into his chair weeping uncontrollably. Zanlin offers some hint of atonement as he informs the king that in that last moment he believed that the king’s son showed some sign of returning from the darkness. This surprised the group somewhat as all looked at each other with a questioning glances, wondering if Zanlin fought the same guy they did. The council then asked about the green mask, which was not found, and some seemed displeased when the group informed them that the mask was not on the body. After seeing some of the council members’ reaction Ebon asked if anyone else in the room had just killed a dragon. (The biochemical bombardment continues, driving many from the table except poor Aaron who seems to be trapped. Resembling a beleaguered boxer backed into a corner trying his best to duck and cover from the vicious blows.)

The king was going to retire to his quarters but decided to stay when the group to speak with him in private. After some small discussion he demanded the group come out with their request, the last demand of the good dragons. After being informed of their demand of a written apology for using mithal to enslave the dragons all those years ago, the king accepts the request. At this time Lady Laeral Silverhand informs the group of two issues to be addressed. One is the request of the Red Wizards of Thay asking for representatives from the Sword Coast to help them overthrow the Lich King of Thay and help them regain their land. The second issue was a Dragon Cult deserter who needed help in defecting. He is trapped in his own tower and has the blue dragon mask. The group decides to head to the deserter. (Coney count: Aaron= 2, Jacob= 2, Jason= 6, Joe= 5, Rob= 2, Roy= 2)

The group leaves the council with an upbeat attitude, the council was impressed with the group be able to gain the support of the metallic dragons and Zanlin was able to convince the King to write the apology, convincing him he could restore honor to his and his son’s name by doing so.

Lady Laeral presents the group with a letter, written in haste, that explains why the defector is defecting. He is in Xonthal’s Towe, some 5 days away. Zanlin and most the group agree it is most likely a trap but they must try if a mask is involved.

The group leaves the castle on their wyverns and see that the tower is surrounded by an unkept and overgrown hedge maze. Close to the tower is a small village, that goes by the same name as the tower, consisting of only 20-25 buildings. No windows are in the tower and the hedges are some 8 feet tall. Instead of making their way through the maze the group glides their well trained mounts, trained by Helm, close to the tower and jumps off close to the tower. While everyone jumps effortlessly, Zanlin jumps off in a graceful roll with a “Ta-da” stance at the end. This draws some strange glances from the group. No entrance can be found into the tower and Ebon even uses up his wand in trying to find one, to no avail The group gathers in a small huddle and it is decided that the wand was indeed a piece of shit. After finding no entrance back through the maze the group recalls their mounts and flying out back over the maze and into the town. A villager warns the group about the maze and its danger, how those that enter sometimes never return and if they do they are changed forever. He also tells the group that every once in a while they see a Blue dragon fly overhead. As the group look at the maze it appears to be a beautiful hedge lined garden with a beautiful and bright tower. The tower has a balcony and window from this viewpoint. A black robed figure appears on the balcony, yelling that he has the mask. He tells the group that he will hide in the dungeon beneath the tower and that the group must hurry. He tosses a small white hourglass to the ground beneath the balcony telling the group that it is the key to get to him (teleport?).

As the group enters the maze they come to a small clearing with a stone sundial at its center. Eight exact pathways go off in each different directions. Upon inspecting the sundial the group discovers that the shadow of the dial points towards the tower whereas their own shadows point away from the tower. Mara takes out her dagger and carves a X into the dirt in front of the pathway they came from with an arrow pointing in the direction they came from, she will continue this throughout the maze in an attempt to not get lost. The players exit the small clearing and transverse the maze for 22 minutes until they come to a clearing too big for the maze. The area is scattered with large boulders and is some 90 feet by 150 feet. A large cottage and pond take up space in this clearing with 2 Cyclops and a small herd of sheep appear to be frozen in time. As the group enters the spring to life and the sound of bleating sheep fills the air.

The two Cyclops notice the group and perform some sort of action similar to "Rock, paper, scissors " and begin to approach the group. Using sign language and picking up a huge boulder one of the Cyclops heaves the huge rock clear to the other side of the pasture, some 150 feet. While not speaking and motioning to the group he clearly has challenged the group to a contest of might. With a smile and full of confidence, and having his new belt of giant strength, Helm rises to the challenge and picks up a 500 pound boulder. With a mighty grunt he tosses the boulder some 105 feet. Realizing he came up short he rushes up to the boulder and tosses it another 45 feet. The giant shakes his head and finger at Helm. With Thanior translating, the Cyclops speaks in giant, “You must beat my toss in one toss”. Knowing that physically he cannot match the Cyclops toss, because he gave that all he had, the group is beleaguered with confusion as what to do Zanlin breaks into the cottage while everyone thinks. It is at this time that out of the blue and with no provocation Zanlin turns to Helm and says, “Why dont you bend one of the sheep over?” To which Helm says, “Really, really?” “Just cause I am a Druid does not mean that.”

Finally Ebon comes to a decision and casts his Arcane Hand spell, he picks up a boulder tossing it the length of the pasture. Upon crashing into the opposite hedge the boulder breaks open to reveal a topaz gemstone believed to be magical. Though the throw was impressive the Cyclops snicker at the somewhat feminine way in which Ebon tossed the boulder (DM’s call). The group decides to leave and walks another 9 minutes through the maze. The group finally comes to a small pathway with 12 flowers, each with a small pearl. Using mage’s hand, Ebon tries to take one causing the flowers to come to action. Not knowing what to do, Mara decides to use evasive footwork to run past the flowers, getting struck twice but drawing the flowers attention and saving the lives of all her friends.

The group keeps running through the maze and with much gasping and out of breath they come to a small clearing with a single fountain at its center. The group keeps going, only to come to another fountain. Confusion fills the air as Mara and Thanior drink from the cool and refreshing water. Helm fills his waterskin from it and decides to turn into a shark to find the bottom of the pool. After finding the bottom he decides to swim to the surface as fast as he can, leaping out of the water some 7 feet in an attempt to see over the 8 foot hedge. Thus the appearance of one, “Jabber Jaws”.

The groups leaves clearly in desperation of how to unlock the puzzle of this maze only to arrive again into the pathway with the 12 flowers. After much frustration, Ebon unleashes a fireball with no warning, sending the flowers into a frenzy. As almost on cue, Zanlin follows up with another fireball. The warriors begin to unleash arrow and blade as Helm swings his shileigh. Both Ebon and Zanlin follow up with a second fireball each as Helm switches tactics to step back and unleash his own lightning bolt (At this time Jacob cannot stop laughing at J as he pulls out his tiny dice for the damage roll, even though he killed 6). Mara attempts to attack but fumbles and gets bit in the ass.

(After being assaulted once again by the noxious fumes that Rob tries to defend with his doctor saying, “Its healthy”. Roy is driven from the table in a gagging and coughing fit, Aaron’s eyes are wide open, gasping for air and holding his chest as he struggles to breath. Joe began to laugh until he choked on what was in the air, all the time Rob defending himself as it was healthy to which Jason clearly expressing his opinion in that there was nothing healthy about that. It is discovered that Rob will now intentionally aim if paid, to which Roy paid Rob to not aim at him, almost like weaker nations paying tribute to not be invaded. The ironic thing about all this is that just a few minutes later Aaron will let one wet sounding one loose and Rob looked at him with a disgusted look saying, I quote, “You’re nasty.” )(Back to the fight)

Zanlin finally drops the last flower and everyone retrieves two pearls and exits the area only to arrive back to the Cyclops. When they enter the discover the topaz was gone and realize they are going to have to repeat the challenge. Being out of spells and many options, Helm uses his potion of shrinking and shrinks the boulder. He throws the boulder causing it to crack open and retrieves the topaz, impressing the Cyclops. The group exits and goes Northeast, still trying to get out of the Hedge maze.
