We pick up in the temple standing over a crispy critter, while part of the party decides what we should do next Ebon and Mara are searching the altar and Mara finds a hidden trigger. Before we move any further Ebon investigates the trigger and finds a trap and disarms it. Mara then activates the trigger which opens a hidden cubby that is a small treasure hoard. They gather the treasure. While the treasure is being collected Trageon finds a door behind one statue. The door is checked for traps and once it has been deemed safe it is opened. The door leads to the outside, and the team tempted to leave think twice and back pedal back into their adventure. Did they make the right decision? Was there more to gain by staying?

As the adventurers start back they come across one of many doors they have yet to open. This door was locked with a monstrous padlock. Could it be a prison of some sort? What in the world were they trying to keep in there? Trageon looked over his shoulder and found a large key ring, 3 lbs to be exact, hanging on the wall. He removed the keys and opened the lock. Once inside the team found nothing but 6 empty cells. Since nothing struck their interest they continued to move back through the dungeon to come across a familiar room. Three quarters of the room glowed red and Ebon and Zanlin persuaded Trageon to move into the red glow to investigate. Trageon being the tank that he is decided to show that he was not scared of anything and moved forward. As he stepped into the glow he was struck by 4 darts which his armor protected him from. Immediately he jumped back out of the glow. Now with his excitement for danger trumping his common sense he steps in again…. “Ouch” he says… 4 more darts shoot from the walls and this time blood was drawn. He quickly moves back again. “There has to be something at the end of this room Trageon!” Ebon states… So Trageon moves forward as Zanlin and Helm stop him to help him come up with a little better strategy. Helm hands him his shield and Zanlin talks to him about leaping through to not trigger the first trap. As Trageon jumps, holding a shield on each side of his face, 8 more darts fly out as he lands deeper into the room, but not blood spilled because of the shields. “STOP!” Ebon yells… “Let me see if I can reach it!” Ebon casts MAGE HAND and guides it to the back of the room where he picks up a pile of clothes. As he moves the clothes back towards the party a dagger falls out from the pants. The dagger is then retrieved by the mage hand and put away until it can be studied. Once Trageon returns to the party the team gathers around him to stroke his ego to let him know how great he did!

PSA – Jason requested to use the cushion and was denied! As if taking notes wasn’t bad enough he had to do it standing up!

Moving from this room to the next the team opens a door to what appears to be a meditation room. In the room there are shrines and statues with 2 sets of plate armor lying in front of the statues. As Ebon looks around he notices snakes slithering about the room going from one hole to another in the walls. Helm casts SPEAK W/ ANIMALS and steps into the room. Immediately hundreds of snakes move into the plate armor and start to form 2 warriors. The adventures move into battle formation as Helm tries to talk them down to protect the creatures. “Give me a chance to speak with them!” Helm cries out. Helm negotiates with the warriors and they agree to speak with him as long as everyone backed out of the room. So Helm talked with the party and all agreed that it would be a good decision. Once out of the room Helm nothing more than what they had already known, but felt good that the lives of snakes were spared.

The next stop was to return to the room with the Bearded Devils. What are they protecting? Zanlin tries to persuade them to allow us through to the spiked door. “We are to kill anything that comes out this door” states one of the devils. Zanlin askes “What will it take for us to pass through that door?” The Bearded Devil replies “$500 gold in and $500 gold out!” Zanlin continues to speak with them and got to a final offer of $200 in and $300 out, but before he could agree the Bearded Devil added “and a smooch from her!” pointing to Mara. Zanlin states “OK!” Mara rebukes “Hell NO!!!” Now the price just went back up to $300 in and $300 out. Zanlin not happy with this tries to intimidate the devils and forces the party into battle.

While in battle Helm using his WAND OF WONDER deals himself damage, Ebon throws a FIREBALL causing burns for all! Zanlin casts CONFUSION which caused some of the devils to attack their own party, while Mara and Trageon engage in some slicing and dicing! From a distance Thanior uses his bow to pick off one of the devils. Zanlin then casts SLEEP and takes forces 2 others to sleep while Trageon slaughters yet another. The last one decides that speaking with us would be in his best interest. All that he tells them is what he told them before… “We are to kill anything that comes through that door!” Mara dispatches the devil and the party moves towards the spiked door, but before opening it they decide to fall back into the cells found earlier for a long rest.

*PSA – Aaron is upset w/ the technology again! He has put more shapes on the map than a geometry text book holds. “Still can’t grab that S.O.B.”

PSA Continues – After about 20 minutes it is important to note that Joe can remove the shapes with the click of one button!*

While resting the alarm that was set up by Ebon was triggered, and the team was awakened. Helm transformed into a mouse and squeezed under the door to see what was happening. While passing under the door he noticed a red robed figure casting a green gaseous cloud towards him. Speaking with Ebon the team is warned and moves defensively yet strategically. Zanlin casts DIMENSION DOOR, he and Thanior move into the Temple area behind the robed being. Ebon casts MISTY STEP and also moves into the temple area unnoticed. Then he casts WITCHBOLT and hits the robed creature. Mara comes through the cloud and finds herself face to face with the robed creature and gets hit with a cold blast. Then the robed creature disappears.

The battle is only beginning though… Three warriors of some sort are moving down the hallway towards the temple. Helm still in mouse form runs past the three and waits for his opportunity to use the element of surprise to attack. “Surrender to the cult now and lives will be spared” rings out from nowhere… Mara gathers her senses and moves into the temple to warn the rest of the party about the enemy that is approaching. At this point the team; except for Helm (yes, still in mouse form) are all in the temple awaiting the enemy to turn the corner. Helm is following behind the enemy waiting for his moment. Out of nowhere 3 red half dragons and 2 assassins appear behind the team. While everyone engaged in battle Mara notices that at least one of the assassins wears the mark. “You dare dishonor our leader Thorn Blackrain and join the scum of the Talons?” The assassin stops for a second and “Who are you to speak of Thorn Blackrain?”…. The conversation continues with Mara getting louder hoping that anyone that can hear her that wears the mark attention is drawn. Now everyone is in the temple except Helm who now faces the Red Wizard of Thay in the hallway. Helm transforming back into himself is scorched in the face with a fireball and the wizard runs off in the opposite direction. Meanwhile back in the temple Mara continues to battle with words as the rest of the team is dispatching of the enemy. Mara’s words are heard and is reunited with the Talon friends and they finish off the enemy. Now with all slain Helm yells out to Trageon “Trageon the Red Wizard of Thay attempts to escape chase him down!” Trageon using his boots of speed jumps in the air and clicks his heels. He dashes down the hall and around the corner. Commotion is heard and then Trageon comes back into the temple with the wizard on the end of his sword like a marsh mellow on a stick! Meanwhile the team searched the area and a magical robe was found.

PSA – New Cheeseball record!!!! 24 balls in P-Dirty’s mouth at one time!

Helm casts MASS CURE with his wand and heals the group. Now that our long rest was interrupted the decision is made to go ahead and move to the spiked door to see what we find!

Once the spikes were removed the door was opened. The adventures move down the steps and find themselves in a large elegant bed chamber. They search the chamber and find a book shelf and chest that strike their interest. Only one problem there are 2 spectral figures guarding them. With the team needing a long rest the plan is to speak with them figures to see if we can help them which in turn would help us. Zanlin persuades the figures to attempt to leave the room after Ebon destroyed a binding ritual that he found behind a loose brick on the wall. Both figures attempted to move outside the room and they both disappeared. All that we heard was a soft “THANK YOUUUUUU!” Now while searching the room a book was found that needed to be returned to ILDA a long with a magical quiver and ring.

The book was returned to Ilda and she is grateful as she disappears…. “THANK YOUUUUUU!”

The adventurers exit via the secret door from the temple and set up camp to attempt a long rest yet again!

Session 20: Trageon: One Man Killing Machine

DM: Joseph “Grizzly Bear” Singleton
All Members of the party

J was late arriving to the game! The crew would all like to congratulate Cam Snapp in qualifying for the state in the mile.

Party benefited from a nice spaghetti dinner to support some local Augusta residents and their mission trip to Haiti.

After some technical difficulties we’re ready to begin play

  • Aaron was ready to abandon the new technology device until Joe and Patrick encouraged him to try it “ONE MORE TIME

Roy provided some last session recap.

The session begins with the party in a long gallery room with a pool. There are broken arrows carved of stone. Dead cultist pool is empty. The stone sluice in the room is also empty.

The party quickly recognizes that the arrows are carved into the Snake God – Merrshaulk.

Patrick spent $30 a K’s IGA on snacks and Rob is spotted to be devouring cardboard

Ebon listens at the door and hears nothing. He checks and notices that the door is unlocked. Trageon, being the hit point tank and party’s greatest warrior, is front rank…he opens the door into a dimly lit large chamber. At the front center of the room is a stone stepped raised dais with a sarcophagus. The walls are decorated with life-size frescoes of Nethevil and Anavria.

Ebon steps on the first step and is taken back by a large booming voice.

Voice: “You approach Diderius in repose. I know what you seek”

Zanlin, the mouthpiece of the party, “just give it to us then”

DIderius: Be prepared, I will open the way.

A grinding sound startles the party as the door opens to about stomach level.

Session 19: Tracking the Wyrm Speaker
The Night of Meat Sticks

April 29, 2016

Dinner tonight: Dogs & Brats with Banana Pepper Mustard

Joe, Aaron, Robin, Jason, PK, Jacob & Roy in attendance.

Everyone gets settled in as we discuss our characters reaching 8th level. Although most were present around 5:00 to 5:30 the time is now 6:30 and we are ready to begin. PK was a little late and quickly began to devour some meat when he called out little Elijah, scaring the crap out of him, for eating more than one dog. Poor little guy quickly fled the kitchen. It was at this time that Madison was caught red handed with the Jalapeno dip and chips.

(That shit has been disappearing for several secession now..J’s words). It is 6:30 p.m. and a meat check is called. Count is Jason=4, PK=3, Joe=3, Rob=2, Roy=2, Madison=1 & Aaron=refused to answer.

Aaron began to discuss how he was interested in building an addition and wanted to know if Rob knew of anyone who could help with it for some Lowbar. Joe was desperately trying to get all in line as he began the night calling for a rank check. Robin realized he was in the front rank and requested a move to the back rank, which got another discussion going between him and PK.
Aaron was asked what his snack was to which all found out it was a meat stick with mixed nuts.
The time is now 7:05 p.m. to which we are still getting ready to get started but Joe had to hold up for a few minutes because he was getting sweats from his meat stick.

Water Deep & Meeting the Council

The group begins their night in the city of Waterdeep, we had recently returned from the Sea of Flowing Ice where we drove off the White Dragon and returned to Waterdeep with the Teethling, Macouth, gaining the trust of the Arcane Brotherhood. We parked the Castle outside of the city high in the sky so as to not raise attention. The question was how to get Macouth’s vast library down to the city. Helm decided to go into town and purchase a cart and horse to carry everything. However, when he was in the marketplace he saw a lovely little cart and horse with a sign on the side, “Rent me”. So he decided to rent one instead. After the group finally got into the city we discovered the council was not in session. But, the leader of the council wanted to speak with us. So the group went to the chambers of the council where they met their old friend the monk along with two other gentlemen. Sir Estaveil, a Purple Knight of Courmyr & Lord Neverember were present with his small man servant.

Neverember asked about the Drachorn to which the group reported it was still missing but they were able to drive off the white Dragon, White Death. Nevderember holds up a bag of coins saying, “Your payment.” Tossing it towards the group, just as Trageon holds up his hand to catch it Helm quickly snatches it out of the air saying, “Thankyou”. Turning to Helm he says, “For the cart rental”. With their payment in check the group takes on a jovial attitude as they begin to exit the room discussing what to do with the money. Zanlin skipping as he plays a joyful tune to add to the excitement. Just as they were about to exit, Lord Neverember, sitting behind his desk. “Gentlemen and my Lady”, we may have another problem that could use your expertise. The group turned to look at him as Zanlin stopped his playing, still holding the flute to his lips.

(MEAT CHECK is called by PK)
Count is Jason=4, PK=4, Joe=4, Rob=3, Roy=3, Madison=1 & Aaron=4

Water Deep & Meeting the Council

Lord Neverember looks to the group and the room goes strangely quiet as he motions the group to his desk. With the group huddled around his desk and with the most serious of looks and with an almost whisper he says, “We may have a Wyrm Speaker near.” Causing Ebon to scream.

Talis the White

Zanlin asks how he knows of this to which finds that the city guards has captured a cultist and Lord Neverember wants the group to interrogate her. He motions to the guards to retrieve the prisoner to which the group is startled to find that their prisoner is none other than Zanlin’s old friend, Talis the White. Zanlin looks to the council leader and Sir Estaveil, clearly upset saying in a demanding voice, “What crimes has she committed?” as Talis looks to him longingly. Ebon quickly catches onto Zanlin’s ruse as the two begin to weave their web of deceit. The rest of the group take up positions in the room that would give them an advantage if this ploy turned against them. Ebon says in an almost laughing tone, “You expect us to interrogate one of our own.” The gamble paid off as the group exited the council chambers with Talis in tow. The group decided to split up and do some shopping as Zanlin took Talis to the local Inn, where he was a local celebrity, to find out what she was doing in Waterdeep. As he and Talis entered the inn a small peasant boy asked for his autograph. The group purchases some potions and Trageon got himself fitted for a suit of full plate armor.

As the group rendezvoused at the Inn more their dinner Helm approached Trageon to ask about his fine armor. “Where’d you get the armor?” he asked to which Trageon replyed, “I traded my scale mail for it straight up.” Helm looked him up and down saying, “Just when I thought you couldn’t do anything any stupider….you go and totally redeem yourself.”

As the group chilled, laughing and eating their meal with a few rounds of stout ale, Zanlin took a seat at a smaller table off to the side to speak with Talis in private. As they catch up with each other Zanlin tells of Cloudchaser’s death causing her to feint to the floor, hitting her head. He quickly helps her back to her feet and sits her down as she begs him to tell her that Cloudchaser was merely drove away and not dead. Zanlin decided to tell her the truth that he was dead, causing her to feint to the floor a second time, hitting her head harder. A small snicker came from the larger table causing Zanlin to look at the group with a serious look. No one knows who snickered.

After Talis finds out that Cloudchaser is dead she begs to know who delivered the fatal blow to which Zanlin told her that would only cause more pain, but to know it was not him. Defending his groups actions and pointing out the destruction that the beast has caused.

Journey to the Serpent Hills

Talis informs him that Verim the dwarf, the White Wyrm Speaker is nearby in the Serpent Hills. The rumor is that the Zintaurim has stolen his mask which is a death penalty if it is discovered to be true. Leosun arrives at the inn, waving to the group he approaches the smaller table with Zanlin and Talis. Once he was filled in on the situation he ask Zanlin and the group to look into the matter. The group returned to the Castle about 10:00 that night.

As the group flew to the Serpent Hills in their Castle it is discovered that the reason Verim is there is because there is rumored to be an ancient pool he could scry to find his mask. The journey takes only 3 days in their castle as the group uses their time to make improvements and train the crew. Talis is allowed free run of the castle, finding it quite interesting, under the watchful eye of Pole. As the castle approaches the hills the group notices a small settlement at the base of the hills.

The Village of Boareskyr Bridge

As the group looked down upon the village Talis informed them that this village was the last known location of Verim. The group decided to travel to the town on foot, arriving on the 4th day around 11:00 in the morning. The settlement was primarily made up of tents and shacks with a large colorful tent taking up the center of the settlement. This large tent was called Bolo’s Tentside Inn. The group entered the tent which only had a few occupants at this time of day, taking the largest table in the center of the room. The group asked for drinks finding that their choices were between Rabbitpiss and Mulekick. Everyone ordered Mulekick with one water. Zanlin approached the small halfling, Bolo, asking about the rumor of a magical pool. He was able to get quite a lot of information from this talkative halfling.

Bolo tells him that he is the second one to ask about the pool in the last few days. She tells of how a dwarf had been in a few days before asking the same information when a hooded individual approached the dwarf asking him why he wanted to know about the pool. The pool is called “Dideruis’ Pool of Divination”. The dwarf warned the hooded individual, who just would not leave the dwarf alone, so he stabbed the scaleskin, killing him dead. She pointed to the ground right where Zanlin was standing saying, “Killed him right here, killed him dead nuts.” Zanlin pointed to the ground saying, “Right here?” To which she responded, nodding her head, “Right here.” “Killed him dead nuts and left quick as cats”. She added to her story how the dwarf hired a group to escort him into the hills and they left quick as cats.

On the Trail

The group gathered on the outskirts of the settlement to discuss their course of action to which it was decided to begin their search now with the sun high in the sky around 12:30 pm. The ranger, Thanior quickly went to work, searching the ground for clues from an overturned rock to the slightest of marks in the dirt. He looked off into the distance pointing out the groups path saying, “That way, there are 12 of them.” With the ranger leading the way the group falls into rank with the ranger adding, “One has a limp.” To which Trageon called, “Bullshit”, with an added snicker from Mara.

(MEAT CHECK!!! called… Count is Jason=4, PK=5, Joe=4, Rob=3, Roy=3, Madison=1, Aaron=4, Jacob=3)

On the Trail

After 30 minutes of walking into the low and sometimes jutting hills the group rounded a bend in the trail to stumble upon 2 Hill Giants. (Timeout is called to discuss how the hell do you stumble onto a giant. This discussion took a few minutes.)

Giant Battle

Initiative is called with battle starting with the combatants being 200 feet away from each other. As the group sprang into action they realize that the giants had caught a humanoid creature and were in the process of trying to rip it apart. Thanior quickly jumps into action firing two arrows at the first giant, hitting it in the right thigh for 20 points of damage. Trageon then follows, jumping in the air and clicking his heels to activate his boots of speed, charging into battle full speed. The group looked on in amazement as he streaked by like a quickling. Just as he draws near the first giant he draws both of their attention as each throws a boulder at him. One boulder smacking him in the shoulder for 24 points of damage. Ebon steps forward a few feet and with a stern look and outreached hand sends a bolt of fire at the first giant, sending it stumbling back as the bolt hits it squarely in the chest for 17 points of damage. Though there was no way she would reach battle as quick as her friend Trageon, Mara ran forward 30 feet firing two arrows at the first giant, hitting the giant in the neck with her first arrow for 12 damage but fumbling her 2nd arrow. Helm stretched out his arms and began to shake as he called forth the power of nature, grunting as he flung his arms forward causing two Dire Wolves to spring out of a swirling mass of air and dirt that had formed behind him.

Taking a few more steps forward, Thanior raised his bow a 2nd time firing two more arrows in the belly of the giant for 23 more damage. Trageon was now in hand to hand combat with the first of the mighty beasts as he darted between its legs, quick as cats, slicing it twice, once in each thigh, for a total of 19 damage. The bloody and angry giant roared in pain as it swung its club at Trageon twice. Trageon expertly ducked out of the way of the first swing, but was not quick enough to avoid the 2nd blow with hit him for 20 damage. Seeing the huge wolves approaching his companion the 2nd giant, while still holding the dangling humanoid by the neck, throws a boulder at one of the wolves, causing it to momentarily fall to the ground, hitting it for 24 damage. Ebon slowly walking a few steps forward swings his right arm sending another bolt of fire towards the first giant. However, his aim was off as the bolt flew off into the sky. As Mara continued her rush into battle, Helm took the shape of a mighty Dire Wolf and sped past her to battle. Thanior knelt on one knee and raised his bow once again and with the precision of years of honing his craft sent 2 more arrows into the giant, striking it twice in the throat for 29 damage. The giant gurgled as it’s hand tried to raise to his wounded neck. It fell onto its knees and finally face forward to the ground, breathing its’ last. With a grin and slight stride he moved forward to assist with the 2nd giant, who still held onto the humanoid.

Enraged over the death of its companion the 2nd giant stepped towards Trageon swinging its club twice as Trageon deafly dodged and spun out of the way of the enraged beast. With his mind focused, Trageon switched his attention to the 2nd giant leaping into the air to strike it across it’s abdomen for 29 damage, causing a nasty gushing wound. Ebon swung his arm a 2nd time, grunting as he sent yet another bolt of fire into the shoulder of the 2nd giant for 11 damage.

Mara continued her mad dash into battle as Zanlin began his rush as well, only to be passed by a leaping Helm as he joined his Dire Wolves in battle. Striking with the deadly precision of a pack. The wolves bit and gashed at the giant for a total of 28 damage. While still walking Thanior continues his slow stride into battle firing two more arrows. One bouncing off the side of a boulder, but the second finding its mark as it struck the giant in the right abdomen for 20 damage. Trageon with shield in hand takes a run at a nearby boulder, using it to kick off of and leaping into the air. He struck the giant, sending his sword deep into the chest of the beast causing it to fall backwards dead and finally dropping the humanoid. The group inspects the giants searching for anything of value or interest. Mara, while standing over the humanoid, finds that it was a male 1/2 elf. She lightly kicks his foot saying, “Well hes dead.” Ebon and Helm investigate the corpse more to find that he was an agent of the Zentarium.

On the Road Again

After 15 minutes of searching Thanior finds the trail of the dwarf’s group and the group heads off into the distance, traveling until nightfall where they take a peaceful long rest in Zanlin’s hut. Resting, eating and laughing around the fire as Zanlin played his flute. They pick up their journey at 10:00 the next morning and after a few hours they come across the ruins of an ancient village surrounded by bluffs on all sides. The bluffs were full of caves as the group noticed a very ornate entrance archway on the far side of the village. The group cautiously moved through the ruins as quietly as they could towards the archway with their bows drawn and at the ready.

Diderius’ Tomb

As they draw nearer the archway they discover a recently left campfire, still smoldering from the morning, surrounded with 3 bedrolls. As they approach the camp fire they discovered 7 recently dug shallow graves. The ranger took a small handful of the dirt saying, “Not more than 4 hours old.” To which Trageon again saying in a perturbed voice, “Ok..again I call bullshit.” To which Ebon glared saying, “SHHHH”. As the group thought on their next actions Mara suggested that Zanlin use his trick of speaking with the dead to find out some information. This drew the attention of the entire group as they all looked at her with a strange and astounded silence. She looked at her companions saying, “Hey..I’m not stupid.” Ebon started to say something but quickly changed his mind with a nudge from Zanlin. He looked to Ebon with an almost pleading look causing Ebon to remember how last time they picked on her she was moody for almost an entire week.
Trageon and Helm took to digging up one of the dead humanoid to reveal it to be a human cultist.

(MEAT CHECK!!!…. time is now 10:35pm real time. Count is Jason=5, PK=6, Joe=6, Rob=3, Roy=4, Madison=1, Aaron=8, Jacob=5) The meat tally is debated with PK pointing out that one of Aaron’s 8 had no bun while all his had Banana Pepper Mustard. This is when Joe wanted it in the notes that PK is creating a “Hostile Working Environment”. I quote, “He continues to eat as he assaults everyone.”)

Diderius’ Tomb

The dead human reveals to Zanlin that he was with Verim and killed by one of the scaled folk one day ago. When Trageon hears “one day” he exclaims, “Told you..Bullshit!!” To which Ebon and Helm both tell him to shutup. The dead cultist further reveals that Varim is heading to the pool.

As the group approaches the entrance they find two 20 foot tall statues on each side of the stairway. As the group got closer one of the giant statues came to life exclaiming in a booming voice, “Halt, you come before Diderius Etherwalker. Behold his wondrous triumph. Do you seek wisdom or knowledge?” Before anyone is able to think Ebon steps forward exclaiming, “We seek wisdom.”

At the top of the stairway the group found a 10 foot gap to the other side, spanned with two ladders stretching across. Ebon leads the group finding his way across the rungs of the ladder easily with the rest of the group following. He reveals to the group once they are all safely across that the room is an illusion, making cracked, degraded and dusty chamber appear to be magnificent and spotless. The group approaches a door on the far side of the room that has been forced open and with Ebon being the quietest he enters first. As he began to squeeze through the door a thought entered his mind as he stared at the floor of the room, “Some knowledge is best unknown, look away from darkness where such knowledge hides.” he shivered as an unnatural chill went through his body. He looked up and continued to move into the room where he noticed 6 heavily cowled & robed statues leaning on their staves. He momentarily stopped in his tracks as he looked back at his companions saying, “Do not look into their cowls. In fact do not look at them at all, keep your eyes on the floor as you follow me through.” The group decided to follow the mage’s advice as they moved through the room. They could hear the scratching of the statues heads moving, watching their movement through the room.

The group next found themselves in a high domed room with a beautiful mosaic on the floor of a shining knight fighting a Chimera. The Chimera leaped to life as the group entered the room, coming into a 2D tiled form. The group battled for what seemed like hours to finally fell the beast when Trageon unleashes a whirlwind of steel with 4 strikes. To ensure that it did not come back to life the group had the idea to take 100 tiles with them, they would put 50 of them down the well later on.

TIME OUT CALLED!! Joe is having difficulty breathing as PK continues his assault. He has been branded as PK the Silent Shitter, with Joe saying, “You don’t even apologize.”. Roy did apologize for his last one at this point to which Rob said, " I apologize for anything later". This brought a very worried look from Arron. May I Point out that later on Rob was true to his word as he continued to arch his backside towards Aaron the remainder of the night. When asked by Aaron as to why point in the other direction, Rob pointed out he could not do that to one of his students. Aaron remained trapped

Diderius’ Tomb-Indiana Jones Has Nothing On Us

The group continued to search the tomb as they found a room with the word “Safe” written in chalk on the door. In the room they found a well surrounded with red mushrooms that smelt of raw liver and shined like wet blood. In the room was a bronze bucket and lever which revealed a trough into another room. Zanlin decided to eat one of the mushrooms with no obvious effect. With nothing found in the room the group decided to exit and go down the only other direction a slanted hallway. Everything was going well until Trageon triggered a pressure plate setting off a boulder trap. The entire group began to race down the hallway with the huge ball of bones catching up to them. It ripped past Helm causing 30 points of damage to him, Trageon and Ebon as it pulled each of the three into the ball. The rest of the group was able to dodge the device as it rolled past them into another room, slamming into the wall and shattering into pieces. Ebon slams to the floor unconscious and near death as the group gather themselves. Zanlin and Helm tend to their companion and Mara, Trageon, and Thanior watch for anything to approach.

The group realize that the room they are in is richly furnished with tapestries on the walls, smelling of incense. An unknown voice says, “Approach Mistrel with humility as you seek knowledge.” Helm informs the group that the symbol of respect to the goddess Mistrel is having your hands above your head as if you are holding a lamp with your head bowed in respect. The group decided to follow Helm’s advice as they approached the huge double doors on the other side of the room. The doors opened to reveal a huge throne in the center of the room with a 12 foot tall statue sitting on it.

Diderius’ Tomb- The Friendly Ghost

Zanlin approaches the statue in a respectful bow asking, “What powerful being sits on this throne?” to which he found that the group must pay silver in order to pass. The group placed their offering of silver at the beings feet as they passed into the next room which turned out to be a large ancient library that had looted long ago. In the room they saw a large glowing tome that was being read by a glowing feminine figure. The ghost conversed with the group in a hauntingly voice after the group revealed that they had no intention of looting the tomb and that they only wished to find a dwarf who was there to desecrate the tomb. The ghostly woman revealed that a few books had been stolen from the library causing her to be trapped for all time. The group offered their help to which she agreed and further revealed that the pool demanded a sacrifice in order to be used. She told of how the revelations of the pool could cause one to go mad, being risky to use without a sacrifice first. As the group left the room the ghost warned the group of how he pool had become more demanding with the activity of the Yuan-ti. This brought a groan from Ebon as he shook his head. Trageon and Mara both asked what that meant to which Thanior said, “It’s not good.”

Diderius’ Tomb-Here There Be Devils

The group continued their search for the pool and Verim the dwarf as they entered a large dining hall with a large marble table in the center. As soon as they entered the room Ebon started backing up with his arms outreached trying to push all the group back out of the room. He recognized them as soon as he saw them. Five purple skinned humanoids with long black hair in topknots and black barbed beards sit at the table casually as they watched the group. Trageon asked, “What is wrong? What are they?” to which Ebon responded, “They’re devils from another realm.” Mara questioned almost stunned, “They’re not moving to the defense to anything, just sitting there.” To which Ebon, now realizing the group had been seen and the was no use leaving, responded as he turned towards the table, “Because they don’t have to worry about us.” At this time he asked the devils, “Greetings, would you know anything about the door that is spiked shut.” In a short talk with the devils the group found that they were with Verim the dwarf and it was he that spiked the door shut. The devils let the group pass through the room, not worried about them, to where the group found themselves in the pool room. In the room was a lone dead cultist with blood stains and broken arrows strewn about the floor and room. Some sort of battle had taken place here very recently.

Session 18: Freed from the white death

We started playing about 7:00 once we decided if we needed to ban baked carotas or sushi with wasabi. My vote is for sushi.
We are in search of Macoth, a tiefling warlock, who works for the arcan brotherhood. She has been missing for over 3 years and needs rescuing. We figure if we can return her safely we could gain the arcane brotherhoods favor.

We start right after we have killed off 4 ice trolls. Helm is in need of healing. In the room where we dispatched the trolls we find 4 straw beds and 15 gp. After searching thoroughly we head around the bottom part of the circle that opens into a room. The room is full of mist. We have limited vision for at least 40 feet. Through the fog we can see 6 figures.
As we move up we hear draconic voices. Trageon feels like they might possibly be kobolds and we decide to attack. As we move into attack we see 10-12 kobolds in a large room. 6 of them are guarding a dark elf hanging upside down.
Ebon, always the instigator, shouts, “If you can move you might want to. It’s about to get bloody. At this point Thanior is dropped to the ground, and he makes a mad dash for his equipment. During his escape he manages to free his hands as well.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please allow me to introduce Jacob Riggins in the role of Thanior the drow elf ranger. He is making his Dungeons and Dragons debut.
As promised, Ebon starts the bloodshed with a firebolt that kills a kobold. Helm follows suit and takes on out with his thornwhip. Zanlin, not wanting to be outdone by amateur tricks, puts the rest of the kobolds to sleep with a slight wave of his hand.
We kill all but two, which we plan on questioning.
As Thanior dons his equipment, we are told to roll initiative in anticipation of another fight. Thanior moves the quickest and gets into an advantageous attack position.
Ebon readies the ever reliable firebolt and Zanlin adds a little extra defense by casting blade ward.
Trageon alerts the party that he sees two trolls coming. Mara at this declaration, prepares an arrow.
Helm oves into position and gets ready to cast command. Before we know it we are surrounded by trolls. Ebon unleashes his firebolt and hits, Trageon strikes out by whiffing three times and the troll in front of him. Mara shoots two arrows and scores two hits.
Helm unleashes his lightning bolt and hits big.
The first troll attacks Trageon and luckily watched him way to closely as he also attacks three times and misses with each one of them. Trageon stays anything but hot and also misses the attack of opportunity he was granted. Troll hits Mara. At 8:05 PK arrives.
A kobold shaman who has entered the fray casts a spell at Helm. Thanior scores the first hit of his young adventuring career with a double strike. Ebon speaks a few words and the shaman is all of a sudden dazed and confused.
Trageon drops a troll and starts bragging about his exploits in battle. We think he is constantly pointing out his battle exploits because he is obviously a fighter and not a lover.
Zanlin lets rip a mighty fart, I mean fireball and finishes off a troll and all of the kobolds. Mara connects on three hits to the troll nearest her. Helm crits a troll with his produce flame cantrip. Thorian continues to impress his new mates with another big hit, and drops a troll. Being a new adventurer Im not sure he realizes the need to kill trolls with acid or fire or they will eventually regenerate. Struggling to finish the trolls off, they keep getting back up and the battle is taking forever.
Ebon, being skilled in the art of dispatching trolls, and other beasts for that matter, casts a fireball and finishes off the troll the Thanior dropped.
Zanlin unleashes three charges from his wand of magic missiles and hits. Trageon scratches a troll for minor damage. Mara, who is in the zone, scores three more hits.
At this point it is noticed that the shit smell showed up about the same time as PK. Coincidence… I think not.
At this point we notice a wild kobold charging at the party with a bone ring in his nose. The players discuss some screwy DM ing right before a troll knocks Zanlin unconscious.
Thanior responds by shooting arrows and hitting for some minor damage. Ebon relying on his trusty firebolt once again explodes the skull of the wild kobold. Zanlin fails to stabilize. Trageon crashes the party and the tide of the battle starts to turn in the favor of the heroes. I’m sure we will hear about this the rest of the night. Once the battle tides turn, Hlem produces flame to finish off the last troll and Mara kills the last 2 kobolds.
Helm cast spare the dying. Our new ally Thanior casts cure wounds on Zanlin to bring him back to the living. While looting they find a platinum necklace worth 50 gp and the pure ivory bone ring worth 25 gp.
Mara quaffs a potion and Trageon being the team player he is shares a potion, While searching the kobold beds the party finds to small dragon figurines worth 200 gp each. We enter the room with many stone statues of yetis, giants, giant squids all of jaw dropping size. The room also houses a 30 ft boat with a full mast.
Thanior while searching the room finds a chest behind the boat. In it is 1000 gp worth of gp, pp and jewelry and gems. While messing with the treasure, helm identifies the growl of what he is certain is a white dragon.
We ascend a long frozen ramp where we find a fancy tent that houses Macoth. She tells us that she is being imprisoned by the white dragon. “white death”
Top ten pick up lines used in a D and D game: “Not that it matters, but we do have a flying castle,
To help us free her by destroying white death Macoth gives us 2 healing potions, another arrow of dragon slaying and a ring of cold resistance that Trageon puts on.
Before the battle we take a short rest and all heal up for the battle.
We notice an 80 ft chute to the bottom level. We notice it is dark at the bottom.
We tie some rope together to go down. Ebon attempts to climb down and fails miserably. Zanlin saves his day by casting feather fall. Everyone but Trageon floats slowly down. As I pass through a zone some ways down the rope I start to feel very sluggish. Mara, Helm and Trageon have the same sluggish feeling. We are slowed. We finally make it to the bottom safely and there is no sign of the white dragon.
We move into position and brace ourselves for an epic battle. We are slow and frightened to begin the battle. The white dragon attacks with his cone of cold and deals massive damage to Mara, Helm and Thanior. Trageon and Mara are no longer slowed but Mara is still frightened.
Thainior lets go two arrows of dragon slaying a deals massive damage as he hits with both. Zanlin aint scared any longer. Trageon misses with a bolt and the dragon puts a whooping on Trageon.
Helm bloodies white death with a moon beam. Thanior hits with a normal arrow but misses with the dragon slaying arrow. A dragon tail attack takes Trageon down.
Zanlin on his next turn heals Trageon and makes his save vs. slow. Trageon wakes up in a big way and gets 6 attacks. In a display of serious failure he lands one attack, but it is enough to cause the white dragon to tuck his tail and run. He is last seen diving into the large body of water.
While searching the lower ice cavern, we find a small dragon hoard. We find a sword, wand and boots. We continue to search for a way up to the top level, when we are attacked by two four armed aquatic trolls. Thanior is knocked unconscious. Helms conjures animal and the prehistoric fish hits. After a couple of regenerations, the trolls are finnaly killed for good. We find our way back to Macoth and head for the hills. We take with us some arcane brotherhood material, but macoth warns us not to read it for our own safety. Ebon collects spellbook and 6 scrolls.
The shaman from earlier is happy that we drove off the dragon. We hire Orca heart and his crew of three warriors, 4 women, 2 kids and a dog to work on our flying castle.
Macoth tells us that the Drakor horn was a gift from Tiamat t the dragons to aid them in the wars vs. the Giants.
She tells us that about 6 months ago, the cultists took the horn and left. Because we were able to rescue Macoth, we have earned the trust of the Arcane brotherhood. We now have war wizards to help us defend our flying castle.
During a long rest we identify Sword of acid (brutal) etra 1 d 6 damage reroll 1’s
Wand of wonder for Helm and Boots of speed for Trageon. We travel to Waterdeep.
Level 8 reached.

Session 17: "Downtime & Ice Castles"

After recovering Imsa and Pole, the group establishes ownership over the flying castle and starts the long journey to Waterdeep. They must let the alliance know of everything they have discovered.

some things still weighed on the party though. like missed opportunities. Not killing Bog Luk was first and foremost on their minds. Though Maura did discover that Sevran ( now on her hit list ) gave the order to kill her father that Resmir carried out.

During the journey, Helm takes the care of the wyverns on and decides to try and train them for aerial combat. Some think he may have an unhealthy attachment to the beasts, but Ebon is sure that is unfounded though some of the sightings of the ‘training’ seem to work against that thought.

Maura has taken to the running of the castle. She has been organizing everything and constantly prattling on about how much it will cost to keep it flying. She can be heard mumbling about how much Ogres eat and whether she should just start feeding them the kobolds. though no one thinks the Ogres would actually go for that. She made concessions for the rest of the group as they didn’t want kobold’s cooking for them and hired two girl’s to do all of the cooking for the group. She even gave Pole the responsibility of being in charge of the Ogre honor guard ( 4 large ogres wearing plumed helms ) as he seemed to communicate on their level well.

Ebon and Imsa are never seen far apart in the month it takes to get to Waterdeep. They have seemed to take a great liking to one another’s company. Ebon finding out much more about her than was apparent in their prior travelling. It seems that she is a ranger in the service of the harper’s and a mishap with a wizard of Thay left her shining green, but solidified that the Red Wizards are in league with the cult of the Dragon.

After making it to Waterdeep, Several of our allies greeted us with much fanfare , even Bringing PK into the Order of the Gauntlet as a lieutenant. Ebon doesn’t believe they thought that through thoroughly, but it is their organization. They can do what they want.

The group takes several weeks rest in Waterdeep waiting for the council to come together to discuss what should happen next. Oddly, Zanlin sees fliers announcing around town that urges people to come see " the world’s greatest Pan flutist". This had Zanlin perplexed as he was positive he was the world’s greatest flutist and he definitely didn’t send out fliers. Curiousity got the better of him as he wanted to see who this upstart was, only to find that it was Alowishous, the guy that kept stealing his pan flute! Seeing Zanlin in the audience, Alowishious begged him to come up and play him and together they rocked waterdeep. After that first night , Zanlin continued to accompany Alowishious on his tour and they were touted the best dueling pan flutes that Waterdeep had ever seen.

But all good things come to an end , as the council had finally set a date to convene on the tidings the group had brought. Leosin would be their escort to the council. As they travelled to the meet, they discussed all they had learned:

  • Cult has been active for centuries in Faerunn
  • The cult used to try and create dracoliches but are now trying to summon Tiamat
  • The cult is in an alliance with Thay and are trying to retrieve 5 artifacts ( dragon masks )
  • The alliance gathered here tonight (harpers, gauntlet, emerald enclave, lord’s alliance & Zhentarim ) have done very little to stem the tide of attacks , except for the fact that they brought this group together.
  • The Raids and abductions continue to increase across the realms
  • The group is also debating what to do with the recovered treasure. as it seems we are the only ones in the realms who are actually doing something about the cult’s activities, and the upkeep of a flying castle is a lot. though they may give some of it back, if the council will not back them , they may need to keep the lot to back their endeavors against the Cult.

After finally meeting with the counsel, the group was under whelmed with the council’s commitment to defeating the cult.

  • Emerald Enclave was disgruntled that the group had to destroy a dragon egg
  • Dagult Neverember ( mayor of neverwinter ) was not happy that we were keeping the Castle.
  • the Zhentarim delegate was just not happy at all
  • We got a sense that the council was scared to do anything as none of them trusted the others.

Ramalia Haventree , a harper, was leading the council and brought in a noblewoman Dala Simlerhelde to discuss important information with us. We had heard a horn blast just prior to the council meeting and Dala shed some light on it for us.

the sound we heard was the Drakar Horn. it warns dragons that some world event is unfolding and they will answer it’s call. The Drakar horn was last seen in the Sea of Moving Ice, to the north of Icewindale. that was 20 years ago and was seen with a white dragon called ‘The White Death’. Macoth, a female tiefling member of the Arcane brotherhood out of Lusken, went in search of it 3 years ago but has not been heard from. all attempts to find her have only shown her ship. damaged and all the crew slain, ice hunters were also seen paddling awy towards a floating iceburg ringed by Icy peaks.

The council did give in to some measure of support after Zanlin gave a rousing speech ( in essence to guilt them into helping ). He was able to garner a month’s resources ( food, oil, etc ) as well as outfitted us with cold weather gear , including snow shows. though not much, it would at least get us started on our search for Macoth and the Drakar Horn. The council also bestowed upon the group special investigative power. Emergency investigative powers and a writ that gives access to resources and sites we deem necessary in our fight against the cult. There will be council oversight, but we can act as we see fit. We would leave on the morrow.

We spent many days travelling North and scouting with our newly trained wyverns. After about a ten day we were able to spot 3 boats of ice hunters and followed them to an iceburg that had a small settlement on it. We flew in low to the sea to land where the burg met the water and followed the hunters up the stairs that cut back and forth up the sheer face of the iceburg.

We had no choice but to be discovered. we were brought before the chief and explained that we were lost and hungry. The shaman spoke common the best and relayed that the chief would let us stay the night and provide food. During the small feast the chief proposed a contest of warriors. our best against their best. the prize would be , be welcome among them as peers , or give up some of our steel weapons. Orka Heart , the ice hunter champion, easily beat out chanpion, PK. Zanlin and Ebon gave up 4 daggers between them.

as thins were wrapping up for the night, Helm turned into a small animal and scouted around. He saw serveral men all armed go into the shamans hut. As a dog, Helm ducks into the hut to find it empty, but sees the shaman come out of chute that appeared to go down into the ice and was camouflaed by furs. he went back to discuss with the group.

After resting it was decided the chute was hiding something. Maybe a lead to Macoth. So Ebon cast invisibility onto Maura and Zanlin so they could scout easier. unfortunately, as they entered the shaman’s hut, Maura stepped on bones and the noise roused the shaman. She started casting a spell and Zanlin quickly spelled her to sleep, though the spell made him lose his invisibility. he sends Maura down the chute while he regains his invisibility and leaves the hut. leaving Maura in the chute.

The shaman was not held asleep for long and rouses to sound the alarm as she leaves her hut in search of the intruders she knows to be within the camp. Hearing all of the hubub, we come out of our shelter only to be accused of treachery. Maura , feeling the rope ladder she was on start to move, is freaked out that she will be discovered and makes a break for the door of the hut. unfortunately, in her haste she didn’t notice her footprints until too late.

Trying to find a way of escape, Zanlin points to the footprints and yells ’ Treachery! there is your intruder, it is not us" ,knowing full well that Maura was making the tracks. Maura hearing the commontion tries for the ice steps while the rest of the group tries misdirection to help Maura escape to safety. PK going as far as bumping the shaman , ’ on accident ’ , to disrupt a spell that would surely show Maura for who she was and endanger the rest of the group.

No amount of misdirection seemed to work, only bad luck , as Maura ran past dog after dog which immediately took up the chase. Knowing the jig was up, Zanlin tells the chief to stop and let’s them know why we are here. The shaman seemed to want to speak more on the subject of Macoth with us, but the chief was adamant that we had broken their trust and must go. as a peace offering and apology, the group gave up a rapier and scimitar to appease the chief.

Back to the Castle empty handed and more questions than answers.

The group decides that the shaman really wants to help us and devise a plan. they flew back to the base of the steps while Ebon and Zanlin dimension door to the shaman’s hut. After much conversation , she lets us know that Macoth is indeed in the tunnels dug deep into the iceburg and that her tribe has been enslaved by the dragon that sometimes sleeps below to gather food for it while it is here. she believes that our group can help break the slavery by killing the dragon and agrees to help us.

The shaman distracts the guards and dogs, giving ebon the chance need to get the rest of the group into the chute under the cover of invisibility.

The group descends into the tunnels and starts a systematic search. more than once, Ebon and Zanlin were forced to be very sneaky to get past large frogs and grey slime. Zanlin even being lucky enough to snag some treasure along the way (gauntlets, broach, hilt) though their luck would soon run out as they were noticed by 4 trolls who attacked immediately.

It must be noted that at this point, a bare Ass was pointed at Roy and a very wet sounding fart ensued. this was in retaliation to Roy’ clearing of the room with gaggingly awful SBD’s. the consensus was that there had to be fecal matter left on Roy’s shirt as the bare Ass was so close.

Zanlin throws a fireball at the trolls, followed closely by another fireball thrown by Ebon. Helm jumped into the room, not heeding the risk to his own health, to hit the trolls with a bolt of electricity. Maura fired 2 arrows and as the initial smoke cleared, 1 troll was down. unfortunately that left 3 of the brutes.

Trageon knocks another down only to see the one Maura had taken down get back up. Many bad thoughts about Maura’s competence dry on his tongue as one of the Trolls brutally wounds Helm as Zanlin fires another fireball into the troll’s midst. seeming to take 2 down for good. Witchbolts and flaming spheres keep the brutes busy as Maura charges the trolls and takes the third down again as Helm’s flaming sphere ends it.

The last troll mauls Maura before Trageon can intercept. Witchbolts and magic missiles zip by his head as Helm’s flaming sphere comes around to light the troll up. Maura, shaking off the mauling she endured finishes the last troll with a somewhat anti-climactic blow of her sword.

As the party catches their breath, they wonder what other menaces they would encounter in this cold underworld.

Session 16: FIREBALLS AWAY!!!j

Late start because of wrecks and weather. DM and Ebon arrive saf7el and we start actual game play around 7:40.

Roy is amazed and he swelled up down south that his 1980’s flip phone actually received a text.

Roy hurt his thumbs while messing with his pickle.

A nice treasure was found. Rexmir’s body contained a wand, a ring, and a amulet. (amulet appears to be a woman figure and a giant) Other half still out there somewhere.

Ebon uses mage hand to open the door in front of us. Trageon steps into a room lined with 100 horse skulls about 30’ up and covered with carpet over the icy floor. As Trageon walks in two of four gargoyles turn and look at him. They follow him as he walks. They notice scrolls and potions lying around.

Helm, Ebon and Zanlin search the room as Trageon, Mara and Tanvir keep watch. The fruits of their labor produce 3 scrolls, a wand and 3 potions. (identified as 1 invisibility and 2 healing) After completing their search they decide to head to the storage room they found earlier and take a short rest.

After a successful short rest the group goes to the spiral stair case and they start to help take crates down. As they move down the stairs they see coins, helmets, livestock, kolbolds, and an ogre or two frozen into the walls.

They make it to the central core that contains huge icicles with two levels. The lower level is a huge pile of treasure. Clawed to the ceiling high above them is a huge white dragon.

We dump the crates and climb back up the spiral stair case. On the top floor we see many ogres training in the front. 2 ogres are standing guard in front of large tower door.

The ogres stop us and tell us that their are no cultists allowed beyond this point. Ebon tells him that Blagothkus the cloud giant is who we seek. (Zanlin is not the only one who uses the name drop to his advantage,) After this the ogre leads us into the large tower

We meet the honor guard: Biff and Boff. They introduce their selves in a most profound matter. Me Biff, This Boff.

They lead us up another spiral staircase. As we arrive Blagothkus is meeting with 2 other cloud giants while having his hair stroked by two female ogres. We meet with Blag and he tells us there is nothing we can do to help.

At this point we decide to show him the amulet and it is very obvious that this gets his attention. He tells us that the amulet is him and his wife and asks if we could get the 2nd part from the white dragon. He allows us to take a long rest under his protection to strengthen up for our coming battle. While resting we studied the wands and the ring. Helm claimed the ring of cold resistance and wand of cure light wounds. Zanlin pocketed the wand of magic missiles and Ebon took the wand of detect magic.

At this point in the game due to the constant barrage of intense bad smells on our olfactory senses the group discusses foods that should be banned from future game nights. The foods that make the initial list are fried eggs, chili and ranch dip.

Back to game.

At 2 am we go back down to lower level and it looks like nothing is going on. Ebon picks the lock on a giant door. Zanlin supports Ebon by placing two hands firmly on his backside. With additional help from Helm, Ebon finally gets the door unlocked. Trageon opens the door.

As he peeks inhe sees 9’ table and chairs. There is a chest in the corner of the room. A male stone giant gazing at his female companion sleeping. He says “Stay out” and we oblige.

Trageon next decides to go and check out the situation with the white dragon. As we all get to within 50 ft. we quickly realize this attempt has been an epic fell when the dragon bellows at us " I dont know who you are, but you better turn around and go back upstairs. We retreat and develop another plan.

We break up into three groups of three and decide to attack from three different tunnels so we dont all get caught in the dragon’s breath weapon. The groups are Ebon and Helm, Trageon and Zanlin and Tanvir and Mara. Each groups attempts to stealthily move into the three different entry points and prepare for battle. So as we attempt to sneak up, we quickly realize that the dragon is aware of us and alert as he screams." What matter of shenanigans is this?"

Realizing that the battle is on and unavoidable, Ebon sends a message to Zanlin to attack. Zanlin at the ready casts his fireball to get things started. The dragon saves and only takes half damage. The white dragon retaliates with a cone of cold at Trageon and Zanlin. Zanlin saves but Trageon doesnt. Zanlin takes 25 pt of damage and Trageon takes 50.

Ebon then throws a fireballand hits for 23 points of damage. Mara lights up the area. Helm casts bark skin to raise his AC and prepare him for battle. Zanlin drops back out of attack range and casts another fireball hitting for 19 points of damage again. Tanvir moves up near the torch so he can see and casts hex. This gives him additional damage. He does 9 more points. The dragon frightens both Mara and Tanvir. Dragon claws at Tanvir as well as delivering a bite. Tanvir takes 26 points of damage. Ebon uses a scroll and casts another fire ball to the tune of 21 points of damage. Mara misses with a bolt. Helm’s lightningbolt connects for 37 points of damage Zanlin heals himself and Trageon moves upcloser to the battle. Tanvir disengages and moves backout of the dragons range. As he is moving out Dragon claws Tnavir and puts him down. Mara also takes a hit. Ebon no longer scared casts another fireball and then Mara puts a thrashing on the dragon and hr awesome hits connects for 45 points of damage. Helm casts another lightning bolt and finishes the dragon off.

After the dragon falls, Ebon uses mage hand and reaches up and gets the other half of the amulet and a leather map. Trageon looks over the map and determines the locationof Black Death.

Ebon detects magic in the pile of treasure and notices 3 different areas. leather armor +1, crossbow +1,bracers of defense.

Aaron notices that the 9 volt battery has been replaced after chirping for three years.

We now remove our disguises and move back up to the top floor to meet up with Blag. Zanlin gives him the other half of the amulet. Ogres begin to dispatch the rest of the cultists.

Blag asks what he can do to return the favor to us. He gives us a bag of holding as a token of our appreciation. he also gives us the castle along with all of the army and his sons. We have at our disposal 40 ogres and 20 kolbolds, 2 stone giants, gargoyles, and cloud giant spirit. Some concern over vampire returning.

We decide to head to the Mirror of the Dead Mans swamp to scout around for Black death.

We approach the lizard men and ask to speak to Snapjaw. Zanlin tells them that he is the reason Snapjaw is king. We are granted an audience with Snapjaw and the lizard men lead us to him.

We broker a trade for the release of Pole and Green Imsa by giving Snapjaw a powerful ring. With the whole crew back together we live to fight another day. As we head back to our flying castle we hear a very loud roar. TO BE CONTINUED.

Session 15: 11-20-2015 Zanlin's Nemesis is DEAD!
  • It was determined that the Corner Cafe chili needed salt**

Present: Helm, Ebon, Zanlin, Trageon, and the DM

Arrived late: Mara

Absent: Tanvir

Session started with all updating their character sheets to 6th level.

There was a 15 minute discussion regarding Ebon’s magical cloak. +1 Cloak of Protection. Ebon dug deep into his notes and found where it was given to him.

Recap of previous session
1. Talus the White, Zanlin’s long lost friend, works with the party
2. Rezmir wanted to kill Talus the White
3. Talus is a member of the Cult of the Dragon
4. White Dragon – Cloud Chaser

Zanlin concludes after a conversation with Talus that she’s not as passionate about the Cult of the Dragon as she once was or should be. Zanlin believes Talus is acting as if she’s chosen the wrong path.

“Teamat, our mother and strength”

Session begins…

Talus informs the party that Rezmir is blackmailing the Cloud Giant to do whatever the Cult of the Dragon wants. Rezmir has dirt on the Cloud Giant.

No Harm is to be done to the Cloud Chaser (White Giant)

The party prepares to enter the castle:

- pass off as cultists
- it was learned that we could ride wyverns into the Village of Parnast
- plan is to fly the banner high and give the call sign

Party heads out…

Talus, being the sweet individual she is, offers a wagon with a tarp, but party graciously declines.

From one side of the mountain to other, the party overlooks the village of Parnast.

Party enters the villag from the North.

Party passes through the center where multiple wagons are heading towards the castle. There was 4 guards that were checking the wagons as they passed through.

Party headed to the tavern for some food and drink. The guards stopped the party and interrogated them regarding their business there. The party flashed the sign and was permitted entrance Into the Golden Tankard.

Greeted by a man with mutton chops that oddly resembles the DM, “what can I get ye travelers?”

Offers the party a plate of pork swords – hard and juicy or sweet and spicy.

Party places an order for their drinks. Mara licks her lips and orders a hard and juicy pork sword.

The mutton chopped employee barks orders at the other workers, “I need some drinks and bring these fine people a combo of pork sausages and a side of stewed cabbage with carrots.”

Ebon with his astute observation skills noticed a quiet man in the corner who kept eyeballin the party.

Mutton Chop whispers to the kid and the kid hurriedly scurries back to the kitchen.

Ragnar Red Tooth was the owner of the Golden Tankard

Beer/Mead was of very low quality in the Tankard. The mantle housed a Golden Tankard that had a look of magical appearance.

Zanlin, being the entertainer he is, spread cheer by playing several tunes on his pan flute with Ragnar’s permission!

Party concluded that the food tasted better than the drink

Zanlin, readied to entertain the Golden Tankard, is stopped in his tracks when the front door is kicked in. Zanlin stops and immediately notices his nemesis! A captain and 6 privates enter the tavern!

Ebon, still focusing on the sketchy individual in the corner, noticed a behavior change when the door was kicked in. Ebon noticed that the man slumped down in his seat, almost hiding.

The captain approaches Zanlin and authoritatively speaks, “You’re under arrest for murder!”

Zanlin name drops (I know this is a huge surprise to everyone) Talus the White. “ask her, she’ll speak of my fine character!”

Othelstan (Captain of the guard at Parnast)- “you mean Talus the Bitch? I don’t need her, I’ve spoken with Rezmir and Bog Luck!”

A cultist comes in and whispers to the captain

Othelstan looks at Mara and addresses her, “Maybe you should come with us as well!”

Zanlin, being proactive, puts pan flute away, and casts invisibility and walks to the bottom of the room.

Othelstan and his cronies stand shocked

Trageon and Mara ready an action
Tanvir stands up
Ebon casts minor illusion and warns Capt. – “He’s getting away!”

Guards to Trageon – “don’t think about doing anything!”
Trageon, not one to be bullied, stands strong

Guard moves alongside Ebon
Helm readies in full defense

Trageon attacks guard for 6 Otis damage

Zanlin double moves and closes the door

Mara comes in hot and finishes the guard Trageon attacked! Using both swords, she stabbed him in the gut, twisted, and lifted the guard off the ground. The sword finishes the guard off and slices him from ear to ear!

Tanvir hexes the guard by Ebon and casts Eldritch blast, dropping him!

Ebon uses Mage hand to drop the bar, locking the front door

Guards banging hard on the door with the Captain screaming, “LETS US BACK IN! I DONT KNOW WHY THIS HAD TO GO SOUTH!”

Captain and Guards continue to demand the party to surrender, of course that’s not in their plans. The final guard drops his weapon and puts his hands up.

Helm double moves to open the kitchen door
Trageon tries grappling and instead is reversed and is now in a headlock.

Othelstan instructs guard to alert the castle

Zanlin, hearing the instruction, warns party of the castle mounting a defense!

Guard grips tighter causing Trageon to turn blue

Ebon, not wanting to cause hostility, double moves towards the kitchen

Othelstan still shouting from the outside, “YOU HAVE ONE MORE CHANCE TO OPEN THIS DOOR! IM COUNTING TO 10!”

Othelstan instructs guard to go around back

Helm, makes his way through kitchen and heads toward the back door

Trageon, tired of playing games with the guard, takes him on a trip to Suplex Cith through the Tankards table, knocking the guard out.

*Patrick sets new DnD record with 20 cheese balls at one time while Joe proving he’s nowhere near the man choking on one earning the title “the Uniballer!”

Zanlin, exits through the kitchen door, notices two guards 90’ away. Zanlin casts fireball, dropping both guards.

The rest of the party exits through the backdoor. Before leaving, using magehand, Ebon takes the magical Golden Tankard.
Helm conjures a rhino!

The party now heads towards the castle. Two guards with pole arms extended shout, “HALT!”

Zanlin casts Vicious Mockery on the guards causing 6 puts damage
Mara tosses a pebble and shoos them away. Guards step back

The party continues towards the castle…

The RHINO, conjured by Helm, charges at the guards – stomps one, gores the other! The RHINO continues running amok through the town, heads toward castle along Main Street, with a guard on his horns!

Dragonwing hits Helm with a Magic Missile! Helm retaliates with heat metal, causing the guard’s armor to burn!

Party keeps going towards castle.

Othelstan hits RHINO for 20. Dragonwing hits RHINO with a magic missile.

As the party turns the corner to head towards the caste, they notice the Ice Castle shaking and the drawbridge rising!

RHINO fights back and hits Othelstan for 16 pts. Othelstan fights back, hits RHINO for 20 more, dropping the RHINO!

Dragonwing phase steps and crits Helm with a scorching ray for 20pts.

The drawbridge closes and the Ice Castle spreads out

Trageon heads back up the crooked path that lead to the kitchen

Zanlin casts stinking cloud
*Dragonwing not affected
*Othelstan bends over gagging and puking

Mara’s crossbolt sails high and misses

Zanlin casts Shatter and causes 20 pts damage

Maras crossbow misses again

Tanvir hexes the Mage and crits him with an Eldritch Blast

Mage drops to one knee after Ebon’s fire bolt sticks

Othelstan works his way outta the stinking cloud and pierces Zanlin with a spear

Dragonwing finally cools down and misses with Ray of Frost

Helm, rejuvenated from the potion, hits Dragonwing with a moonbeam dropping him

Trageon uses his action surge and Othelstan is slashed for 9 pts damage

Zanlin misses, Maras cross bolt wildly misses, but Tanvir joins the party and hits Othelstan with two Eldritch Blasts for 25 pts damage

Ebon hits with a magic missile

Othelstan misses Trageon with his two attacks

Helm, moves his beam to Othelstan, he takes 6 damage

Trageon hits a badly beat up Othelstan for 9 more

Zanlin misses, Mara fires and misses, Tanvir misses, and Ebon follows suit missing with a fire bolt

A bloody, but pissed Othelstan critically hits Trageon with his flail

Helms moonbeam does 6
Trageon misses twice
Zanlin misses with crossbow

Ebon changes lock to wood and bashes it — party enters the stable.

Upon entering the stable, they see:

  • Riding harnesses mounted to the wall
  • 3 stables contains 3 wyverns

It needs to be mentioned that Helm, the Wyvern Whisperer, calmly harnessed the wyverns and perfectly executed the ole Rub and Tug!

After calming all the wyverns, Helm instructs party on safest way to ride

Session 14: Death of Frulan

September 25, 2015

The day started out jovial with all being in high spirit and ready for a full night of good times. In attendance were Rob, Patrick, Jason, Joe, Aaron, and Roy along with Angie and the children. We decided to order from the corner for the evening’s meal and this event becomes the beginning of some very questionable, concerning and surprising moments of the evening.
After the food was picked up from the Corner the night starts with Jason and Patrick getting a disappointing surprise when they find that they have no fries. PK wanted everyone to understand that he did not get his fries and even quotes Lethal Weapon (with much heart and enthusiasm), “You don’t go through the drive-thru because they screw you at the drive-thru.” This actually stunned a few of the group as Jason even looks at PK and tells him, “The Corner has no drive-thru.” The night continues to speed up as the group enjoys their meal and Joe notices some very strange hit point shenanigans with PK’s character. After 15 minutes of discussion about the amount of hit points, Joe decides to add it up himself. Taking a pencil and wetting the tip of it with his tongue, he puts pencil to paper. 28 + 5 = 27. He sits up straight proudly and smiles with a hint of satisfaction saying to PK, “You have 28 hit points.” This even stuns Angie who is busily painting her kitchen cabinets, at this point I will mention the room is beginning to fill with fumes.
After a few minutes of uncontrollable laughter and tears in the eyes of all in attendance. Joe quickly hands out cards to Jason, Roy, and Aaron changing the subject. The room falls a little more quiet as all finds out that Jason now has swamp sack, Mara has swamp puss and Aaron has swamp ass. This jester brought a rather serious look from Aaron who was not happy about having swamp ass and made it know he wanted to discuss this. Confusion fills the air for awhile as Jason, Joe, Aaron, and Roy discuss the issue of these swamp illnesses in a debate. While this is going on Rob keeps asking for fresh paper (5 times), PK is on his phone and then all grow silent with the slight noise of a small trumpet is let out. (The night begins with the first assault of foul wind) The room grows silent and Rob discreetly points to Angie who denies it with anger. (Rob finally gets his paper but that is all he is getting this evening)
After 45 minutes in we have yet to begin as Aaron begins to mess with the projector, just not happy with it being cockeyed he says. Joe tries to explain how to turn it and after 20 minutes three people get involved to fix the projector. Time for smoke break.

We finally get underway after 1 hour and 30 minutes and Joe sets the scene where the group has spent the better part of a day exploring this swamp in the middle of the swamp and are heading to the 2nd floor of the last tower to be searched. The floor is one large room with a strange glow and regular furnishings for a sleeping quarters for someone of a somewhat high rank.

initiative rolled (Skirmish of the Tower)

Tanvir the Small is the first to climb the spiral stone staircase to meet the occupants of the floor with the rest of the group following behind. He enters the room to find Frulan searching a wooden chest and holding up a small ornate ring exclaiming, “We have found it!”. Frulan looks to the group with a sneer of frustration as a large 1/2 dragon, human crossbowmen, and a human axe man called a Dragonwing, attack the group.
Tanvir quickly darts into the room to dodge a bolt fired from one the Dragonwings with Mara right behind him. As she enters she raises her crossbow to level and fires a heavy bolt at Frulan, striking her in the right shoulder for 13 damage. The 3rd to enter is the bard, Zanlin, who quickly takes cover behind a bed against the wall firing at Frulan and striking her for 5 more damage. The 1/2 dragon steps forward some and gives a spear a mighty throw, aiming at Mara’s torso who dodges, sending the spear smashing into the wall behind her. Frulan the dark cleric rises from her knelt position, shrugging off the damage to her shoulder and thigh, raising her hand as she looks at Mara casting a spell towards the fighter. The effect of the spell causes Mara to momentarily stagger from dizziness and shaking her head to get rid of the blurriness as she shakes off the cleric’s spell of blindness.
Tanvir fires two Eldrich’s Blast towards the cleric as he nimbly jumps about the room, only to miss once and the second bolt of energy being swatted away by the cleric who is now smiling and laughing at the group. Soon her laugh turns to a look of seriousness as Ebon the Mysterious climbs the stairs to enter the room, his robes flowing about as he raises one hand towards the cleric exclaiming, “You will hold!” The cleric’s eyes fill with shock as she finds herself unable to move, her body becoming rigid, unable to act but able to move her eyes witnessing all that transpires around her. The 1/2 dragon becomes infuriated as he witnesses his cleric being attacked, letting out a deathly growl his eyes fix on the robed assailant, Ebon, who is seeking cover behind the same bed as Zanlin. Tregeon enters the room screaming like a wildman, drawing the attention of the 1/2 dragon off of the mage, throwing two javelins at the huge beast who defiantly swats each away with the skill of a powerful warrior. The 1/2 dragon’s eyes are now fixed on this large well armored warrior, snarling at the warrior he does not see the smaller framed druid enter behind the warrior to cast a area hold spell. Helm waves his hand as he chants some words under his breath causing both the 1/2 dragon and his human axe man guard to hold in their place, held by some unseen force of nature.

As Mara charges the cleric who is defenseless with wide eyes of panic the crossbow man fires a 2nd bolt at the female warrior, who spins her torso in a somewhat bladed dance move, causing the bold to miss her by 2 feet. Savage strikes hit the defenseless cleric causing a frozen 1/2 dragon to quake with rage unable to defend her. Seeing the struggling huge beast Zanlin decides to switch his focus and sends a shattering spell towards the frozen 1/2 dragon. Striking it and the Dragonwing for 16 damage. Tanvir who is now charging the cleric sends two more bolts of energy towards her only to miss (how is this possible…show up to play Ha).
Just as the dark cleric begins to struggle, she can feel herself gaining control of her body again, and this is not unnoticed by Ebon who tries to refocus and get her back in a hold spell to no avail. Tregeon charges the 1/2 dragon striking him with a mightly cut down his shoulder for 27 damage. Blood spills from this deep cut as Zanlin yells, “Good blow.” (everyone stops to look at Zanlin) (small group discussion on if it was really necessary to yell that out in the middle of a battle). Helm rushes across the room, as he closes the distance a long whip of thorns grows in his hand, he raises his whip and strikes the beast, adding insult to injury. The Dragon wing tries to defend his commander, as he frees himself from the hold of nature, striking Tregeon for 13 damage. The crossbow man notices the small Tanvir getting closer to his mistress and fires a bolt at the thief, unable to strike him, as Mara spins bringing her short sword around in a backwards swipe across the cleric’s stomach for 9 damage.
Finally the dark cleric is free and she raises her arms, outstretched above her head, yelling words in a strange chant filling the room with swarming, biting locust. Tanvir, Helm, Tregeon all take 15 damage while Mara, who is closest takes 30 damage.

Arrival of the Man SEAN BARRETT

Sean surprised all with a special appearance complementing Angie on her work on the cabinets. Jason seemed to be getting a little giddy but we dont know if it is the fumes from the paint of the gaseous projectiles from Joe, PK and an unidentified person as of now. PK and Sean play a few hands of High Dice with Sean taking 20 for 20 yelling, “You don’t F%$K with me.” Taking PK’s money with a crit, but being the man he is Sean leaves in style not taking the money but instead opting for a simple beverage at state.

Skirmish of the Tower (continued)

Tanvir, being quick and nimble, leaps on the shoulders of the 1/2 dragon, sending the blade of his dagger down through the slit of the beast’s armor, bypassing the collarbone and killing the huge beast instantly. As Tanvir takes down the towering 1/2 dragon, Tregeon switches targets and attacks the cleric who is still in the midst of her swarm spell. He raises his sword over his head and sends it is a powerful slashing attack, cleaving through her collar bone. Her eyes almost glass over as she falls to her knees, blood dribbling out of her mouth. He spins around to her back and sends a 2nd mighty slash down on the opposite side of her neck, decapitating her instantly. With both the 1/2 dragon and dark cleric dead the two human guards begin to loose moral. Taking advantage of this Helm strikes at the crossbowman with his Shillelagh, killing his instantly. As the Dragon Wing moves to attack a rising Tanvir, Mara sends her short sword cutting through the side of his armor sending him to the floor dead.
With the Tower battle now complete, the group looked at each other and nodded to each other in approval, covered in bruises and the spray of blood. After searching the room the group found the ring of Myrkral on the body of Frulan along with a chest of gold, silver and gems. The glowing and beautifully crafted scale male that Frulan was wearing went to Mara as Helm found for vials of a green foul tasting liquid. After he inspected the vials further he found that this was what was needed to cure the dreadful Swamp illnesses.

Fareseer of Illusk

As the group climbed the stairs to the last floor of the tower they find a dark room with strange scientific devices and shelves of paper, manuscripts, beekers and charts. But, the item that gets everyone’s attention is a large device that resembles a fragile and ancient telescope. After inspection Ebon turns to all to say, “It’s defiantly magical.” He spends a few minutes fine tuning the item and looks through it to gaze into the night sky, but instead of stars he sees a vivid vision of a large lair with a huge Black Dragon arguing with what appears to be Enzma. To her side is Pole, standing silently, and to the other side are the twin girls who attacked and tried to kill Zanlin. Ebon is unable to discern what is being argued about but he sees the twins capturing Enzma. Pole tried to stop them only to be cut down. Enzma seems to be captured as the Dragon looks directly into the direction of Ebon. The group debates what information that has just been discovered. It is to be seen if Enzma is working with the dragon or not.
As the group takes a short rest they pondered returning through the swamp, which Ebon vibrantly denounced, “I do not want Swamp A^% again.”, or going through the portal. It is decided that we keep the ring, since Ebon was able to see it is magical, and turn the book over to Snapjaw to gain the trust of the Lizard folk. Before returning to the courtyard Ebon takes a second look through the telescope to see a vision of a hunting lodge surrounded by white snow that turns to a very quick glimpse of a stormy dark sky and a Storm Giant looking towards him. Before we leave the room Ebon takes the lens and crystals.

Portal to the Unknown

After the group took a rest and gathered their thoughts they stepped through the shimmering portal into the unknown. In a instant they found themselves in a chilly far off land, with the ground covered with snow and a dark and dense evergreen forest surrounding them. Somewhat disorientated and dizzy from the travel the individual members try to gather their thoughts, unable to hear the words of their mage, Ebon (who was use to this type of travel and not as affected). All they could make out was a muttering before they found themselves being attacked by 3 Trolls, one with 4 arms, and 3 Ambush Drakes. After a lengthily battle full of blood, and fire the group was able to dispatch the beasts to finally realize their surroundings. Off in the distance, cutting through the dense forest they could see a large two story building, the hunting lodge. They stood in a clearing with three mossy covered old stones, cracked and traces of old paint, surrounding the portal. On each stone in an ancient Draconic writing were written; Snowy Lands, Unquiet Swamp of Mournful Croaking, Lands of the Red Sands. The group decided to head to the wood line and as they walked towards the trees to take a short rest Zanlin turned to Ebon and said, “Were you saying something about getting to the trees?” Ebon then turned to Zanlin is frustration saying, “So we would not be seen.” Snickering somewhat Tregeon added into the conversation, “That plan worked out well didn’t it.”

(SIDE NOTE) It was during this time of play that all players in attendance witnessed a record being broke. PK was able to place 14 balls in his mouth with the assistance of Jason. A mouth full of balls.

Hunting Lodge

As the group approached the hunting lodge they decided it would be best to just act as they belonged. So they entered the stone and wood building into what appeared to be a mud room of sorts. Upon opening the door Tanvir is frozen in place by what appears to be an alarm. After getting Tanvir back with the group they decide to investigate the area where they find a black suit of Armor that comes to life only to attack them. In the very same room they find a large 15’ by 8’ tapestry depicting a scene of 3 hounds dragging down a large white boar. Ebon inspected it before the suit attacked to realize it was magical.
After further investigation they discover a chest of 4000gp, white scale mail, and a scroll of scorching ray. Then they meet the inhabitants of this lodge. Entering a large room with beautiful furniture they see a human woman dressed in ling flowing red robes and white scale mail holding a wand with a blue jewel. Beside her are 3 guards, all dressed in fancy scale mail, and another 4 armed Troll. Zanlin smiles a bit as he recognizes his long lost friend, Talis. Zanlin and Talis meet later that night as the rest of the group gets a good nights’ sleep in comfy beds. They flirt and smile at each other parting on the same grounds as they met. Later the next morning the group is greeted with a huge and bountiful breakfast. It is here that they learn new information. That Talis is known as Talis the White of the Cult of the Dragon…The Wearer of Purple…and she is one of 5 Wyrm Speakers. She informed the group that she was aware of the groups actions and following Rezmir.
She goes on to tell the group that Rezmir recently tried to have her killed and is at Sky Reach, a castle in the sky. He is holding up with Verem the White and does not agree with the current path the cult is taking. She tells the group that they may have trouble with Glazhale the Cloud Chaser, a white dragon.
After speaking the group is asked to take Rezmir and Verem out for Talis and in return she would give the group the suit of scale mail and 1000gp. She informs the group that the Cult’s army is in the Sunset Mountians and Wyverns may help the group get to Sky Reach at Parnast. (It is at this time the group learns the sign of the cult, an open palm..right hand only while speaking, “Tiamet our mother and strength.” The group has much to decide as they ponder on their next course of action.

Session 13: Murder Hobos
trap doors should stay closed

Sadly , the Druid starts the evening by trying to throw the Mage under the bus by sneaking a d4 onto his laptop. :( poor Druid. It was bad enough that the DM was already lying about the party’s health. Not a good start to the night.

A Quick recap was done :
• The party is looking for Resmir ( 1/2 blue dragon )
• They need to figure out where all the Valuables are being taken
• Talis ( Zanlin’s friend ) the 1/2 elf
• The infamous Bog Luck is still at large ( could Zanlin be frightened? )
• Frulam Mondath narrowly escaped the party’s grasp
• The party made powerful allies in Snapjaw and the Lizardfolk as we help them take the castle.
• The party is looking for the Book of the Dead & and the ring of Myrkle to give to the Lizardfolk so they can give it to the Black Death ( whom they worship ) . The party is still piecing together who the Black Death is.
• The party is looking for a password or symbol to operate the portal they found below the castle where they believe all of the valuables the cult has been stealing are being taken

After the battle with Borngray and his drake & bullwug thugs ( whom were beaten quite handily. The DM appears not to be able to throw enough at the party to make them remember it is lethal ), our intrepid adventurers continue with the investigation of the rest of the castle. Their initial searches of the rooms in close proximity to the battle were empty ( all enemies obviously ran from the power of the group now ransacking the castle ).

- An aside -
Our Druid admits to liking “wood” …. Very vague on who’s “wood” - though he makes a semi recovery by throwing throwing out another euphemism " he likes Cherry Wood " . The group is unsure if they fall for it or not.

- Back to the story -

As the party continues their search into one of the towers of the castle, the group comes across a barracks used by the lizardfolk. Zanlin immediately starts to search the lizardfolk belongings until he is shouted down by the rest of the party. The term shady was bandied about in regards to the heretofore trustworthy Bard.

The party finds a door in the ceiling leading even further up to what they believe is an attic. Curiously it is barred from below, like the lizardfolk were trying to keep something in. Never ones to shy away from danger ( though lacking in common sense ) , they throw the bolts to investigate. The room above is pitch black except for the small light now filtering in. Helm decides to go batty and changed into a bat to fly up and investigate.

After taking an inordinate amount of time, the party sends ( goads ) the brave Mara into the darkness above with a torch to check on the hapless Helm. When she crests into the room she shrieks and pushes further in letting the party know that a giant spider is snacking on our beloved Helm and that knowledge enraged the party to action.

Mara hits the filthy beast , making it think its days are numbered. Zanlin backs away a little and starts mocking the beast making it fall from the rafters, narrowly missing knocking Mara back into the room below. As the beast hits the floor in a puddle of its own icky blood, Trageon stabs it’s dead carcass to be sure.

Believing the lizardfolk should have just taken care of the beast, Tanvir starts to search and Ebon climbs up to cut away the webs holding Helm hostage. This act causes more spiders to drop from the rafters onto the party, Mara being the only member too slow to avoid being bitten by one of the beasts.

Zanlin jumps and continues mocking the spiders using hit and run tactics while Tanvir does his own version of hit & run as he runs around in circles slapping at his head trying to dislodge a spider that landed on his head but to no avail. A ray of frost leaps from Ebon’s hand onto the spider attacking him and Helm, slowing the beast. Giving Helm the time he needs to revert from bat form and smack the spider with his Shillelagh, only succeeding in angering the beast further making it lunge at Ebon and land a bite. A green poison oozes from the spiders teeth into Ebon. Helm can see Ebon visibly shrug off the effect that would have surely spelled his doom.

Mara continues to whittle away at the spider trying to molest her , but she is saved by Zanlin show jumps to her aid , delivering such insults as to make the beast fall over dead.

Tanvir continues to slap at the spider on that is still attached to his head. This time using a dagger, though it is still not enough to break the spiders grip. He is taking a severe beating from the beast but continues the struggle.

Mara , freed by Zanlin attacks the spider trying to eat Trageon, wounding it greatly. The spider even survives the nasty insults of Zanlin while Ebon and Helm make little progress with the spider they are engaged with. Due in part to the weakened state of the Druid. The again is able to viciously bite Ebon who , while shrugging of the earlier effects, doesn’t have the inner strength to shrug off the poison again and slumps to the ground, death just seconds away.

The vicious melee starts to turn in the favor of the party as Mara finally dispatches a spider , freeing Trageon to engage another while Zanlin punches a crossbow bolt into the fiend waiting to strike a death blow to Ebon with deadly accuracy. Trageon makes short work of the final beast.

The party finally realizes why the Lizardfolk bolted that door and come to the conclusion that some doors should stay locked.

Sweating and near exhausted, needing to heal Helm and Ebon, the party fortifies the door and takes a small rest, letting the lizardfolk continue the clearing of the castle for now. In the quiet dark, Zanlin plays a rousing tune on his pan flute to bolster the groups morale and steady their nerve.

After licking their wounds they continue on looking for the book and the ring. Most of the rooms are free of enemies and are just common rooms. The party starts to get frustrated that they are wasting precious time not being able to follow the cultists to where they are taking the treasure when they hit upon a chapel. Helm explains to the group that this chapel is dedicated to the five headed dragon Tiamat. That in itself causes the party to pause and see if they can glean anything useful from the room. Upon close inspection Ebon was able to find a small secret compartment in the altar, seeming a very logical spot to hide the Book of the Dead Sermons. With swamp ass still keeping its hold on him , he asks Tanvir to search the cubby for traps. Not finding any they cautiously open the compartment to find a silvered dagger which radiates a small amount of magic. Ebon tells Tanvir to use it good effect.

After leaving the chapel empty handed and still frustrated the party barges into another room that appears to be a library, startling several cultists who are huddled up in the room hiding from the lizardfolk. The party still dressed in the garb and trappings of the cult try to bluff the cultists into going to help Master Borngray. Zanlin explains that Borngray wants the party to retrieve the book for him so he can escape through the portal. The cultists seem too scared and challenge Zanlin to give the secret salute, unable to , Zanlin falters.

Ebon was watching the cultists and when Zanlin falters he believes the jig is up. He fires a blast of frost that the wary cultist was able to dodge. The cultist , not wanting a fight stand down at the show of force and Tanvir starts to search the library. As Tanvir finds the book of dead sermons, giving the party a much needed win, the cultists get real irritated forcing Zanlin to start shouting insults at them and Ebon blasts another with a ray of frost , this time connecting. Mara attacks the other cultist and with an amazing cut, lops his head right off. The wounded cultist screams ," Treachery! Borngray will hear of this", as he tries to escape through the door. The poor fool not knowing that the party had already dispatched Borngray , and never would as Tanvir drops him with his new dagger.

The party make a concerted search of the library. Mara helps in the search with a glazed look in her eye , showing the her illiteracy and the party has to search again the area that she was looking. While not finding the ring, Ebon did find a spell book with 3 spells in it, so the effort was not wasted. Continuing to search through this tower they come to an office with a bedroom attached.

Helm’s searches of the office bear fruit, finding papers strewn across the desk that mention the Hunting Lodge and Parnast ( a northern village ) throughout much of them. But the biggest find was a piece of paper that yielded the password for the portal.

“To Port Draezir”

The party would finally be able to follow the cultists to the source.

Just as Helm was explaining his find to the group , two explosions rock the group from the bedroom, painfully dowsing them in acid. Effectively destroying all normal items. Ebon, thinking that the swamp ass was starting to wear off, set off a trap in one of the wardrobes.

- an aside -
Curiously…. PK decided to show all present how many balls he could fit in his mouth. 9 to be exact. These were cheese balls, but it does lead one to wonder why he would practice fitting balls in his mouth.

- back to the story -

On their way down to the main floor , the party comes across several lizardfolk trying to open a chest and decided to help them hoping to find the ring that was still eluding them. The lizardfolk agreed to let the party keep any rings found. Once opened, it was clear that the ring was not present and they ensured the lizardfolk kept the silver that was kept within and the party kept 5 rings that were in the chest. Ebon kept a close eye on the bard as he had already acted shady when he decided to try and search the lizardfolk barracks.

They make their way through to the last tower that is basically a muck pit, having fallen into too much disrepair the only thing left is the place where the castle dumps its waste. There is a part of a staircase , though it is a 10’ jump to get past the muck. The party starts to head toward the last building, the keep, to finish their search when someone notices a small chest on the far wall of the tower, across the muck.

The party decides to leave no stone unturned ( or are they just greedy as this is a very apparent trap ) and devise a way to get the chest. Helm changes into an eagle to fly across the muck. Halfway across tentacles reach out of the disgusting slime and latch onto the eagle. Pulled form the air , Helm takes several hits and appears to start sweating. Another party member contracts the dreaded swamp ass.

Trageon immediately tries to help Helm but can’t seem to hit anything with javelins and wonders why he even bothers. Knowing that it would be suicide to enter the muck and seeing no good way to save his friend, he steps up and lashes out at the creature with lightening jumping from his fingertips as Zanlin hits it with a crossbow bolt. The rest of the party doesn’t fair well with their ranged attacks.

Helm , knowing that death could take him at any minute, drops his eagle form and since the beast is holding him up , he blasts it with a lightening bolt, severely damaging it only to be whipped around and slammed into the ground. The tentacle continues to pull Helm halfway into the muddy cesspool.

- an aside -
In the middle of combat, feeling that his monster is getting whooped, the DM calls out Rob for applying the wrong damage. What a little girl the DM is sometimes. :)

- back to the carnage -

Mara, drops her ranged weapon and decides to try a daring rescue of her friend Helm , who continues to get into bad situations. She takes a running leap that spans the 10’ to the stairs and then into the air and onto the creature, not caring about swamp puss as she has had it for many days. The creature shrieks and slams Helm again, stunning him. Could this be the end of the druid?

Seeing Mara’s success, Trageon gracefully follows suit and wounds the creatures. With one friend stunned and two in danger of being dragged down, Ebon thinks it might be a good time to cut bait and leave. He analyzes the situation and believes he can make one more attack before leaving these fools to their own demise. He pushes as much energy into his attack as he can and is able to kill the beast with the lightening that is still attached to him and creature. Mara and Trageon are able to drag Helm from the muck. The party prevails and gets their chest only to find it holds two copper coins.

While the party laments their decision to take the obvious bait, someone finds dwarven writing on the trap door at the end. They are able to decipher the runes – ’ Mighty Undead lay further beyond this point ’. Believing this might bear them the ring they seek, the party opens the door.

- an aside -
The group is concerned with PK & his fascination with balls as he gives Roy’s nuts a little tweak.

- back to the murder hobo’s -

As the party enters the attic ( maybe they should have learned from the last trap door they opened…. Shakes head ) six ethereal creatures rise up from the dusty bones lying on the floor. Tanvir is quick to attack but misses. Ebon send magical energy in Trageon so he will be able to cross the distance quickly as Zanlin moves into the room and shatters two of the creatures but quickly exits the room the way he came. His hit and run tactics still working to great advantage. Mara advances and destroys one of the wounded creatures.

- an aside -

The DM confiscates Roy’s character sheet and questions his having a magical blade. Wanting to know where he got it and then PK states there will be no confiscating of his character as he dazedly watches the DM pull his sheet away. The DM is finally satisfied and gives the sheets back. We think he is butt hurt that we are mowing down his monsters. :)

- the murder hobos continue -

Trageon imbued with lightening speed slips up, destroys a creature and moves on to engage another, wounding it. Tanvir is drained by one of the creatures and hellishly blasts it.

As the battle rages, Trageon is brutalized by one and Helm has had enough waiting in the wings so he charges into the room and destroys one of the creatures that are surrounding Tanvir giving Tanvir the opportunity he needs to wound another while Ebon sends magical energy into the remaining three creatures.

Zanlin curses the creatures and weakens them as Mara comes to the aid of Trageon dropping one as Trageon unleashes a flurry of attacks destroying another of them as Helm destroys the last.

The party searches the room as they lick their wounds once again and take solace behind another trap door leading to an attic. The party’s search yields star charts that they stow away for later. Rested they continue their search of the Castle. Finally moving into the keep.

Making quick work of the keep, the party finds a chest. After both he and Tanvir fail to open it, Tanvir even finding a trap the hard way, Ebon changes the metal of the lock into wood and they bash it open, finding a travelling spell book with more spells in it. Ebon take the book to study.

Further searching has the party stealthily checking a room. What they see makes them elated and wary at the same time. Inside the room are a half dragon and a woman holding what the party believes is the ring of myrkle.

- and break -

- will the two be easy pickins for the the formidable party?
will Zanlin confess his fear of Bog luck?
- will PK finally get 10+ balls in his mouth ?
will Helm redeem himself ?
- Will the DM be a bigger puss ?
will Tanvir show up?
— will roy wear a skirt to get into character?

Join us next time as we follow the intrepid adventures of the Murder Hobos……

Session 12: Rest for the Wicked!!!
Snapjaw Rules

Actual game play started at 6:45 after delicious meal of coneys was eaten and enjoyed by all. Some would same room for more later, others would not, but we will get to that as we move along. The game started under protest with the DM claiming that the light in the room was not sufficient enough for him to see, although the light had never been questioned before.
The merry band of adventurers awakened at about 3:00 a.m. well rested and ready to go. The topic of conversation centered around the party being thankful that Zanlin had encouraged them to find rest for their weary bodies. The crew realized once again how wise Zanlin was. Although they had slept comfortably, Mara and Ebon quickly realized that they were still afflicted with the swamp ass. Although they were not full speed, the group was still ready to complete their objectives. They knew as they set out, they still needed to discover where the treasure was being transported to, find and destroy Rezmir and locate and kill Bog Luck and Frubar Mandoth.
About 4:00 a.m., disguised as cultists, the group set out to search the walled, castle that included four towers and a huge keep. They knew that at least cultists, bollywogs, lizardmen and guard drakes awaited them. And , only the gods knew what else.
Just before the adventure begins, it is called out that Roy’s glasses were covered with a thick layer of yellow smoke. Years of Machen smoke had finally caught up to him. Maybe he needs to invest in more than a new phone. At this point it is 7:30 and PK has just enjoyed dog # 5 and Aaron has smashed # 3.
As they leave the room they rested in, they here noise in the adjacent room. Someone is overheard urging Rezmir to hurry. With that the group peeks in the room to find stairs going up and down. With a little investigation, it is discovered that Rezmir and his crew headed down the stairs in the room. The foot prints and drag marks were easily spotted by our seasoned band of adventurers. Being born of superior races, Tanvir, Ebon and Zanlin can easily see in the dark and follow the nasties down the stairs. The rest of the crew, being born with inferior vision has to trail behind by about 40 ft. and travel with a torch to see. At the bottom of this set of stairs, it opens into a cavern with a large pool of water. The group moves quickly and quietly along the left side of the pool of water. As we catch up to Rezmir’s crew we notice them near a machine on a ledge. Helm decides to turn into a bat to investigate.
Helm flies up ahead and notices 4 cultists, including the crane driver, up on top of the ledge, and 4 more below. Mysteriously there is no sign of Rezmir. (At this point, 8:37 PK engulfs dog # 6). The 4 cultists below are about 20 ft down and must use the ladder present to get up to the top.
We decide quickly to charge in surprise them and end this battle very quickly. Well as the old saying goes the best laid plans of mice and adventurers often goes astray. Or in this case, smells astray. We are noticed before we get the chance to charge because Ebon and Mara smell something terrible because of their swamp asses. Even though he doesn’t surprise the cultists, Zanlin with his superior speed and skill launches the first attack and hits the crane driver with a bolt that causes him to drop the crate he was transporting below. It would be really cool at this point if I could say the crate and fell and crushed the 4 cultists below, but I can’t. All I can truthfully say is that it fell and broke. Trageon quickly followed up with a massive double strike that killed a cultist. Helm cast Shillelagh, and smacked a cultist around. The cultists, rebounded with their attacks and damaged both Mara and Helm. They completed their attack by moving into an advantageous position. The 3 cultists below enter into formation with the fourth one cresting the ledge by way of the ladder. (Now it is 9:05 and Aaron eats dog #4 and # 5 at 9:14. PK finishes ½ a dog to bring his total to 5 ½. Tanvir continues the battle by killing a cultist with his first attack but peters out on his second attack and misses badly. Zanlin fires another crossbow bolt and kills the crane operator and then sings a tune to give the Trageon a dose of bardic inspiration. Mara then double attacked a cultist as he stepped off the ladder and used her 2nd wind to rally. Helm, with his second attack of the battle, finished off a cultist with his Shillelagh.
The cultists mount their offensive and deliver a critical hit to Trageon, and also hit Mara and Helm. (At 9:30, Jason eats coney #5 with cheese and #6 in an impressive 2 bites. He is in the game) Tanvier responds by killing a cultist with two hits. Zanlin “stays hot” and crits the cultist closes to him and Mara finishes him off. As the battle rages on, Mara is dealt a mighty blow, but is able to parry a large part of the damage keeping her on her feet. The sides continue to do battle, but Zanlin and Trageon continue their assaults and kill the last two foes. (at 9:41 in the midst of this massive battle, PK quaffs dog # 6 ½)
Once the battle is finished we search the bodies and descend down the ladder. Trageon leads the descent. All of the cultists are wearing leather armor and masks. We take these. The noise of the battle must have drawn lots of unwanted attention, as we notice that we are being approached on the bottom level by a large number of bullywogs and up top by a large number of lizard men. Up top Ebon is spitting game to the lizardmen and he eventually talks them into helping us dispatch of the large group of bullywogs. Unfortunately while he is on his knees begging for help, the lead bullywog unleashes a vicious Thunderwave that hurts Helm severely and knocks him prone. The wave also crashes into Zanlin and Mara , but they are able to shake off a part of the impact and do not suffer the full damage of the spell. Helm, struggling to raise up from the floor, is able to respond with a thunderwave of his own that rocks the bullywog leader. The bullywog takes some damage, but is able to withstand a lot of it and keep his footing. From up above, we here the lizardmen finally coming. Help comes from up top in the form of Ebon casting a witch bolt at the leader. Seeing his chance, Zanlin bloodies the bullywog leader with a shatter spell. Mara follows up by shooting a bolt and chucking a spear at him on her attack. (it is now 10:45 and PK finishes off dog # 7 ½). The bullywog leader is badly hurt and extremely ticked off. He casts another thunderwave and it hits home and knocks Helm out causing him to fall of the ladder and lay unconscious on the floor. Zanlin is again able to shake off half of the damage. Tanvir casts misty step, to improve his location and unleashes an Eldritch blast at the bullywog leader. Trageon is the next to attack the leader, he delivers a hit, but the leader still stands strong. The stinking cloud Zanlin had cast earlier to keep a large number of bullywogs at bay begins to dissipate because Zanlin lost his concentration when he took damage.
Spatter-goo, the bullywog leader bites Trageon before he is killed by a Mara fired crossbow bolt. (Dog update: 11:03 Phillip eats 1st dog, 11:10 jason eats 2 more dogs(7 total consumed) and a devil square, and Aaron eats his 6th coney)
Even though their leader has fallen, the remaining bollywogs continue to attack. A combination of our group, and our new friends the lizardmen eventually finish off the bullywogs. 9 of 20 lizardmen die, but their leader Snapjaw stands strong.

For assisting us in the battle, we agree to find and return the “Book of Sermons” and the “Ring of Merkel” to the Black Death. Mara presents Snapjaw with the fish head helm that Spattergoo was wearing. (11:45-PK eats dog # 8 ½)
The lizardmen depart us and continue on into the cavern to battle the bullywogs and the giant frogs. We move on into the cavern as well and come upon a shrine to frogs. Our next stop finds us in what we determine to be Spattergoo’s chambers. During our search of the room we find a chest. The room also contains a muddy chain, a table and chairs and some candles. We quickly determine that the chest is trapped. Tanvier moves in to try and disarm the trap. Try being the key word, and fail being the more important word. This failure causes four pots to crash from the ceiling and engulf him in a purple smoke. Once engulfed, Tanvier strips off his clothes and runs out of the room. Trageon gives chase to save his friend, and catches up with him just in time to see him dive into the lake and start acting like a frog. (at 12:04 PK claims to have crapped Bog Luck—no one rushed in after him to confirm or deny)
Since the trap gave Tanvier so much trouble Helm cast guidance on Ebon before he tries to disarm the chest. As a little extra help, Zanlin sings a little ditty to provide bardic inspiration as well. All the extra help proves useless as Ebon is quickly engulfed by purple smoke from the 6 pots that dropped from the ceiling. Ebon strips to his underwear, pulls out 2 daggers and attacks Helm. Lucky for Helm he misses with both. Helm then successfully subdues Ebon and Mara helps Helm tie him up. Helm then identifies the purple smoke as mushroom spores as assures us the effects are not permanent. Mara heads to the lake and tries unsuccessfully to coax Tanvier out of the lake. While our comrades are under the spell of the purple cloud, we decide to take a short rest and avoid the chest. During the rest, Helm, Trageon and Mara use their hit dice. It takes about 30 minutes, but Ebon and Tanvier eventually come to their senses. Mara takes drastic measures and attacks the chest. Mara then opens the chest. In the chest we find 500 gp, 5 gems, 2 undisturbed pots, 2 gold earrings and an Amulet. Zanlin and Ebon search the rest of the room and find nothing.
As we move on, we run into Snapjaw and he lets us know that they have cleared out the rest of the lower area. We move into what looks to be a teleport room. Located on the floor we find an arcanic circle, but have no luck trying to use it.
12:45 Aarom claims “No Mas” PK undecided Jason not done.
12:47 PK quickly becomes decisive and eats dog # 9 ½.
It is about 8:00 a.m. and we return to the castle. We return to the area where we slept and climb up the stairs we found earlier. We find 3 rooms. They are cultists sleeping area,. These are nice rooms, but we find nothing of value. We ascend to the third level and find the lizardmen, led by the mighty Snapjaw, battling guard drakes and the ½ elf with long white hair. (Borngray) A lesson from the DM teaches us the GRAY is the American spelling while GREY is the british Spelling. We assume our newest adversary is American.
Ebon lines up a lightning bolt as we are attacking 4 guard drakes, 4 bullywogs and Borngray. The bolt crashes home and kick starts the battle by killing 2 bollywogs and damaging a guard drake and Borngray. Tanvier follows up with his own casting of Eldritch Blast the kills Borngray. Zanlin on his attack puts two bollywogs to sleep and Mara slaps a guard drake around with three hits. Helm moves into a better battle position. The spells keep coming as Tanvier hits with another Eldritch Blast and Ebon casts Ray of Frost. When Helm cast the 2nd lightning bolt of the night the battle turns in or favor quickly and it is obvious it is about to end. The rest of the battle is a constant barrage of spells and attacks from the good guys and eventually the nasties lie dead at our feet. We survive practically unscathed. The lizardmen celebrate our victory. We search the ½ elf and notice that the cloak he was wearing took no damage under the barrage of attacks. We will definitely keep it and check it out further. (1:36 Max consumes his first dog.)
Session ends at 1:40. In a shocking twist, Patrick rushes out unable to help clean up.
